JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assesses patient status on admission to the preop area, the operating room and/or the postop area, and on a continuing basis.
2. Provides safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and
nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities. Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for
discharge. Documents interventions and patient's responses.
3. Ensures provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner.
4. Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.
5. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require the information including, surgeons, anesthesia, management and other staff.
6. Safely carries out physician's orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities.
7. Initiates and participates in patient and family education. Assesses learning needs according to patient's level of understanding and readiness to learn.
8. Displays an understanding of each patient's cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care.
9. Takes part in pre and post-op phone calls and communicates any problems to the
appropriate person.
10. Maintains competencies to function in RN role within specific area. (Ex. OR circulator -
Identification, counting and care of instrumentation and sponges, skin preparation of surgical site).
11. Maintain competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated
patient. Including airway protection, assessment and support of sedated patients.
12. Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards such as electrical, equipment, pressure points and by minimizing exposure to maintain privacy and body
temperature.
13. Expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.
14. Assesses, anticipates and implements appropriate care through out the surgical process.

1. Participates in organization Performance Improvement activities, department activities, and QAPI activities designed to maintain quality and safe care for patients served by the facility.
2. Effectively communicates within the organization and with the community to provide quality services.

5. Observes organization policies and procedures.
6. Promotes a positive public image when representing the facility.
7. Accountable to OR or Pre/Op PACU Team Leader.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND EDUCATION:

2. Annually completes all required in-service and training (e.g. CPR, Infection Control, Safety, etc., as appropriate to the job) as well as all educational requirements.
3. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliation to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
4. Seeks feedback to enhance own performance.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. State Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse.
2. One (1) to three (3) years previous experience in operative setting preferred.
3. Affiliation with local, state or national nursing organization preferred.
4. Certification in operative Services preferred.
5. CPR certification upon hire.
6. ACLS certification within three (3) months of hire; PALS certification within three (3) months of hire if performing pediatric cases.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Working environment is generally favorable; however, there is exposure to risk in the form of disease and potential for exposure to electrical and explosion hazards common in a surgical and/or Pre-Op and PACU environment. High potential for exposure to blood and body fluids; Personal protective equipment is required.
