Wound Care Nurse - PRN

The Registered Nurse would be a specialized wound care nurse who assesses and treats complex patient wounds including ulcers, burns, lacerations, and ostomies. They also create care plans for medical teams, patients, and their caregivers to follow to help wounds heal and prevent a recurrence. Wound care nurses work closely with doctors and other members of patient care teams to determine the best course of treatment for wounds and ensure that treatment plans are followed carefully.

This Registered Nurse would work at a Wound Care clinic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assess patient wounds as they develop or upon admittance
• Cleaning and dressing patient wounds to remove bacteria and debris and minimize the risk of infection
• Determining appropriate treatment to help wounds heal, such as regular cleaning, antibiotics, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or surgery
• Instruct patients and caregivers on how to treat and dress wounds to assist in healing and prevent infection after discharge
• Giving verbal instruction while providing a written care plan for patients to follow at home
• Track treatments and patient progress
• Complete paperwork for patient records and insurance reimbursement
• Adhere to all HIPAA and company policies and procedures
• Attend clinics that are scheduled, prompt, and efficient with minimal absences
• Managing multiple patients at the same time with high energy and organization
• Collaborating with other health care providers regarding clinic and patient needs
• Documents all procedures and treatments in the patient’s medical record during the time of the patient visit
• Communicates pertinent information to other healthcare workers verbally and/or in writing
• Ensures a safe, orderly, and clean environment for patients, families, visitors, and personnel
• Immediately responds to emergency situations according to hospital and departmental policies
• Participates in hospital initiatives to promote community health and wellness
• Fulfill other nursing duties as required

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Must hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas
• CPR and basic life support (BLS) certifications
• Prior wound care experience and certification (preferred)
• Prior hyperbaric experience welcomed
• Excellent customer service skills
• Must have critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Must be able to adapt quickly to the fast-paced changes that can occur in the outpatient clinic setting
• Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up and follow-through skills
• Able to identify process challenges and present creative solutions to Clinic Nurse Manager for resolution implementation
• Maintains a professional attitude under all conditions
