988 Crisis Intervention Specialist Part-Time

Role and Responsibilities

What we expect of you as a CI Specialist I:

• Answer calls from individuals in crisis seeking support in high-risk-of-suicide situations within 20 seconds.
• Assess risk and screen individuals for suicidal ideation and danger to others during the contact.
• Coordinate active rescues, voluntary and involuntary, when needed for individuals in imminent risk of self-harm.
• Provide appropriate referrals to 988 contacts based on needs.
• Complete all required forms of documentation, including encounters and/or outcomes as required.
• Offer all contacts, follow-up contacts and complete proper notification process to Engagement Resource Specialist and/or other staff as appropriate.
• Consult with Team Leader or other qualified Supervisory personnel as needed for consultations on calls regarding emergency situations, ID/D, SUD, etc.
• Communicate unusual calls or increased call volumes to the Team Lead.
• Communicate technological challenges or issues to the Team Lead.
• Coordinate with the other positions in the 988 system to ensure quality encounters and outcomes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements to be Considered for Position:

• One year of work or lived experience preferred, not required.
• A HS diploma or equivalent.

Supervisory or Coaching Responsibilities

• None required.

Required Skills / Abilities:

• Duties performed to specified protocols.
• Perform duties with regular, ongoing access to the team lead and supervisory assistance when needed.
• Complexity of the encounter rises when addressing contact needs appropriately. Need to be able to remain calm in a potentially strenuous situation.

Required Technology and Software Tools:

• You will need to use the following software and communication tools regularly and repeatedly:
  • 988 Call Platform might be the Unified Platform or a state-developed platform.
  • Vibrant National Resource Center.
  • Learning Management System might be one from Dept. Behavioral Health, Relias, one created or acquired.
  • Basic office tools - Outlook, Google, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) system - AVATAR

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Special Requirements

• Satisfactory criminal records background check.
• Valid drivers license with dependable transportation.
• Some travel may be required or necessary for training.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and other times as necessary.
• Work from home / remote is a possibility for some shifts or as necessary as determined by management.
