EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and ability will qualify. These would typically be:
- Graduation from an AMA approved school for Ultrasonography
- Current RDMS registration
- Current First Aid and Basic Life Support
- Minimum two years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Current Continued Education Credits as required by current state laws and ordinances
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
Positions in this class of employment are situated in a standard clinical environment where there is little or no exposure to variations in the weather or other similar elements. Physical agility must be such that the UT is able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. This position has direct patient contact and calls for the ability to assist frail patients in rising, walking, sitting, and lying down, repositioning, etc., frequently throughout the course of the shift. The UT should be able to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly and 65 pounds intermittently. There is potential exposure to blood, body fluid/tissue, and infectious wastes. There is also potential exposure to radiation, chemicals, and toxicants.
SYNOPSIS OF JOB FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, the UT is part of the patient care team that works together with other departments to maximize patient comfort, patient care, and patient satisfaction. Provide adequate films satisfactory to the radiologist for interpretation and diagnosis.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
This position reports directly to the Imaging Manager and is not a supervising position.
CHARACTERISTICS:
The UT works within a framework of established regulations set forth by Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. This position is expected to perform the full range of activities as well as other technical duties within the Imaging department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up, operate and maintain equipment to conduct examinations and procedures according to established protocols for a wide variety of complicated job tasks requiring coordinating numerous processes and methods
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic Sonography examinations
- Uses cognitive Sonography skills to identify, record anatomical pathological and diagnostic images
- Uses independent judgment during ultrasound exams to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
- Analyzes ultrasound images, synthesizes information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate radiologist
- Obtains proper patient history prior to performing examination to ensure the appropriateness of examinations and facilitate timely, accurate diagnosis of the patient
- Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients during scheduled examinations or procedures
- Report and record patient and procedural data in accordance with CBCC protocols
- Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations by providing information and explanation of the test to be performed
- Disinfect equipment and ultrasound probes according to safety standards and adhere to safety standard precautions at all times
- Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure continued availability for examinations and procedures
- Transport patients to/from the treatment area to the Imaging department
- Assist patients, who are unable to dress/undress, with the treatment gown
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Notify Imaging Manager or technical support of equipment issues
- Document and report any issues to the appropriate supervisor
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge base:
- Related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Patient care charts and patient histories
- Familiar with the nature and treatments of Oncology diseases and of reactions & side effects of related therapy methods.
- Familiar with industry specific health and safety principles, practices, and procedures.
- Computer keyboarding techniques
Skill in:
- Communicate well with patients, coworkers, physicians and suppliers
- Troubleshoot errors with equipment
- Standardize workflow
- Dealing positively and professionally with patients and staff
- Setting up employee work schedules to match patient flow
