Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical billing claims to insurance companies and patients accurately and efficiently.
- Review patient records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all necessary documentation is included.
- Utilize coding systems such as ICD-9 and ICD-10 to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on outstanding claims and resolving any discrepancies.
- Conduct medical collections in a professional manner, addressing patient inquiries regarding their bills.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding practices, and insurance policies to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any billing issues or discrepancies related to patient accounts.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, preferably within a medical office setting.
- Familiarity with DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding and its application in billing processes.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10).
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare staff.
- Proficiency in using medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems is preferred.
- Certification in medical billing or coding is a plus but not required.
