Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers medical services as an Operating Room Technician to ensure employees' and client personnel's health.
- Performs scrub tasks using technical skills.
- Assists the Anesthetist with patient positioning.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment to preserve patient/personal safety.
- Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes instruments sets as necessary.
- Disinfects, decontaminates, and sterilizes surgical instruments.
- E nsures proper instrumentation for each procedure.
- F ollows all principles of sterile technique.
- L oads operations of the Stream Sterilizer.
- P articipates in counts (instruments, sponges, sharps, etc.) as necessary.
- P roperly stores and handles surgical instruments, including testing Biological Indicators.
- A ssists with maintaining supplies and equipment.
- A ssists with managing day-to-day activities and prioritizing tasks.
- O perates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
- C omplies with all applicable standards and guidelines.
- D ocuments care delivered and follows up on required care.
- C ommunicates issues, obtains approvals, resolves problems, and maintains knowledge of new developments and policies.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a school with documentation of completing certifying requirements for Surgical/Operating room technician.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Surgical/OR Technician is required.
- Skilled at obtaining body fluids, tissues, and other specimens.
- Surgical technologists need manual dexterity to handle instruments quickly.
- Surgical technologists must be conscientious, orderly, and emotionally stable to handle demands of the operating room environment.
- T echnologists must respond quickly and be familiar with operating procedures to have instruments ready for surgeons without being told.
- M ust be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
- P roficient with computer and common office equipment, as well as MS Office products.
- A bility to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements, including potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
- May require bending, stooping, and lifting for patient care and transport.
