As the Corporate Materials Engineer you will partner with the lines of business in analyzing new and existing operations efficiency, engage in process improvement initiatives, assist with facility start-ups, and develop and coordinate projects to improve speed, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction. As the Corporate Materials Engineer you will partner with the lines of business in analyzing new and existing operations efficiency, engage in process improvement initiatives, assist with facility start-ups, and develop and coordinate projects to improve speed, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction. You will be engaged in training employees in proper work instruction and processes, investigate and resolve matters of significance on behalf of the company. Involved in the documentation of major layout changes, designs coordinate and supervises collection of records to document measurements.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Improve the process flow and layout of the facility including designing and implementing racking systems, routes for storage and picking, and inbound and outbound logistics.
- Champion continuous process improvement initiatives in the areas of warehousing and transportation solutions.
- Review and establish policy and procedures of the logistics operation process and to implement throughout the entire organization.
- Handle projects as required – including project plan development, project management, and accountability for results.
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency, using drafting techniques.
- Regulate and alter workflow schedules according to established manufacturing sequences and lead times to expedite production operations.
- Participate in Multi-disciplinary Five Phase Problem Solving Teams that directly drives company’s Continuous Improvement Process and Policies.
- Support new business initiatives and facility start-up activities.
- Apply and teach the lean principles of material pull systems to support customer requirements.
- Effectively train all material staff ranging from clerks to managers.
- Perform layered audits and drive open items to closure.
- Effectively communicate cross-functionally and with customers to plan launches, resolve issues and maintain CLI principles of operations.
- Establish/maintain effective KPI’s, monitor performance and initiate improvement opportunities.
- Utilize/maintain PFEP (plan for every part).
- Turn data into business cases to ensure we make fact-based decisions.
- Maintain accurate inventories and inventory control using techniques such as min-max and cycle count processes.
- Manage and enforce material flow and traceability in a warehousing environment using scanning technology and visual management.
- Manage the engineering change process to ensure breakpoints are achieved and communicated effectively.
- Resolve material shortages, overflow situations, and discrepant records effectively by root-cause analysis and then document continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or related field.
- A minimum of (3) years industrial engineering experience in Warehousing/Distribution environment required.
- Prior Automotive/3PL experience is preferred.
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Lean material management principles focused on reducing waste and standardizing processes.
- Demonstrated success in supply chain and logistics process improvement activities.
- Understand the lean principles of material pull systems to support customer requirements.
- Exceptional customer interfacing skills.
- Experience with material management features or modules in SAP would be an advantage.
- Materials systems EXPERT (with multiple systems).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven skill in using data to make fact-based decisions and drive business cases approvals.
- Able to travel within the U.S. (50%).
- Work long hours when required.
