What are the responsibilities and job description for the Daytime Sleep Technician position at Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates?
A busy Sleep Medicine practice in The Woodlands has a Daytime Sleep Technician position working 7:30 am-4:30 pm. You will be trained to work under the direct supervision of the Technical Supervisor while developing competency in performing basic sleep-testing procedures and associated interventions. You will be performing the daytime studies that would include, but not be limited to, MSLT, EEG, PAP Naps, HSATs, etc. We expect that you have a stable work history, and while we will train you and do not expect prior experience, this role requires someone who is organized, quick on the uptake, and a very fast learner.
Domains of Practice for Sleep Technicians
1. Sleep Study Preparation & Setup
- Review patient history and confirm medical orders.
- Follow sleep center protocols.
- Verify patient identity, collect documents, and obtain consent.
- Explain procedures and orient patients to in-center or out-of-center testing.
- Select, calibrate, and adjust equipment as needed.
2. Testing Procedures
- Follow protocols for tests (e.g., MSLT, MWT, parasomnia, PAP titration).
- Conduct physiological calibrations and baseline recordings (“lights out” procedures).
- Acquire and monitor quality of sleep data; identify and correct artifacts.
- Document sleep stages, clinical events, and significant changes.
- Assist with therapeutic interventions (e.g., PAP, oxygen).
- Complete post-study procedures (“lights on”), including final calibrations and data verification.
- Recognize sleep/wake stages and clinical events in real-time.
- Provide age-appropriate care and education (neonatal to geriatric).
- Set up and manage portable monitoring equipment, including education, data download, and troubleshooting.
- Follow cleaning and disinfection procedures for equipment.
3. Service Management & Professional Responsibilities
- Comply with safety, infection control, and HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain equipment and manage inventory.
- Hold current CPR/BCLS certification.
- Demonstrate skills in communication, computer use, customer service, critical thinking, and teamwork.
- Support quality assurance and patient flow efficiency.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
4. Work Environment
- May involve prolonged standing and exposure to chemicals (alcohol, disinfectants, adhesives).
- Risk of contact with infectious agents; proper safety measures are enforced.
- Work is performed under the supervision of the Medical Director, Technical Director, or healthcare providers (NPs/PAs).
