Our growing agency is looking for the right candidate to provide direct, in-person communication supports to adult clients with communication disorders in the Harrisburg and West Shore areas.
- The Communication Specialist is primarily responsible for direct implementation of skill-acquisition of communication systems or devices and data collection within an already existing communication plan.
- The Communication Specialist will instruct, educate and train those with IDD/Autism, staff, other professionals and team members as it relates to assistive technology and the implementation of communication systems and devices.
- The Communication Specialist will work directly with individuals with IDD/Autism through training, support, device maintenance and the procurement of assistive technology devices.
- The Communication Specialist should be competent in assistive technology including computer access, technology applications for communication, PECS, electronic aids for daily living, and alternative communication systems.
- The Communication Specialist provides a caring, supportive and safe environment through observation, attending to individual needs, respecting differences and supporting growth and independence.
- The Communication Specialist provides comprehensive information to the team about each assigned individual through the assessment process. Offers well thought out, enhancing goal ideas.
- Reliable transportation required.
Certifications and Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (preferred) in the field of Human Services (speech pathology, education, psychology, social work, etc.). Experience in special education or speech language pathology is preferred.
All applicants must also be willing to submit background check.
Current (dated within a year) State Police and Child Abuse clearances.
Essential Duties:
- The Communication Specialist will implement, monitor and track communication progress and supports including the use of assistive technology and AAC devices.
- Collect data on communication goals.
- Support communication in the home, community and work locations of the client.
- Train and educate support staff and families on proper use and strategies of communication systems.
- Travel between clients within Dauphin and Cumberland Counties
