Our Basic Center Program provides safe and welcoming spaces for youth aged 12 through 17. As a 24/7 operation, we offer shelter for up to 21 days, and we're funded by grants from various Michigan departments, community donations, and family support, making our services free for youth and families. At FYI, we understand that many of our participants have experienced difficult life situations. We offer counseling, life skills training, and a wide range of recreational activities to help them discover their strengths, build resiliency, and envision a brighter future. Position Description: Intervention Specialists report to the Program Manager. As an essential member of our overnight team, you will play a crucial role in the well-being of our clients. Your responsibilities will include consulting with co-workers at shift start and end to share vital information, assisting clients at bedtime, attending to their basic needs, performing bed checks throughout the night, and answering the crisis line. You may also conduct in-person assessments for potential program entrants during overnight hours, although most assessments occur during the day. Staying awake and alert throughout your shift is crucial, as is ensuring accurate shift documentation and preparing paperwork for the following day. Data entry in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), as well as running reports. Light cleaning, laundry organization, data entry, and project support assigned by the Program Manager are all part of your duties. On school nights, you will be responsible for waking clients to ensure they are ready for their day. Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Proof of a negative TB (tuberculosis) test
- Ability to pass criminal and child abuse/neglect background checks
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Computer proficiency and typing skills
- Ability to work with a challenging and diverse population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor’s degree, or current enrollment in a human services program, or in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Counseling, Mental Health, Family Services, Human Services, Criminal Justice)
- 1-2 years’ experience in a role related to human/social services
- Previous experience working overnights
- Professional experience working with adolescents
- HMIS knowledge or experience Trauma-informed care and Positive Youth Development knowledge
- Conflict resolution skills
- Experience conducting phone and/or in-person assessments
