ABOUT THE Division

General Description

We’re looking for an Accessibility professional with a passion for ensuring CPA produces accessibility compliant websites, forms, and documents. As member of our SWAG (Software Web Accessibility Group) team, you’ll leverage and grow your skill-set in a collaborative environment to promote accessibility compliance and awareness though-out the Agency. You’ll be a great fit for this position if you are self-motivated, interested in learning new skills and technologies, and enjoy working in a team environment where both pride in work and work-life balance are valued.


Work Hours

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, 40 hours. Occasionally, work non-standard work hours to include additional hours on evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years of recent experience working in Accessibility related Analyst or Software Developer role.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel, PPT, and PDF editing tools.
  • Experience with accessible PDF form design
  • Experience with Accessibility testing tools (ex. SortSite, JAWS, NVDA, Wave)
  • Experience in writing and documenting information related to accessibility issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems or a related field that includes credit courses in computer programming in any language.
  • Complete copies of official college transcripts must be furnished at the time of the interview for positions requiring a college degree, and/or specific educational credits.
  • Knowledge of the W3C’s WCAG 2.0 and above
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices in HTML 5 (Including the ARIA specification), CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to use WCAG to diagnose and remediate accessibility problems to at least “AA” level.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience in remediating PDFs, Excel and PowerPoint files.
  • Experience in using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA or any other)

Substitution:
One (1) additional year of the full-time experience in software application development may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).

SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. The incumbent primarily performs sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out various duties. This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach as needed to perform filing and other similar routine office duties. Some lifting and moving, up to 35 lbs. of office equipment and/or materials may be required on a limited basis. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.



In this role you will:

  • Analyzes and resolves complex accessibility issues.
  • Assists with testing customer applications for accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.0 or above) for both newly developed applications and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Coordinates accessibility discussions with stakeholders, including diagnosing and communicating accessibility issues or similar functions.
  • Creates documentation for identified issues, relates these issues to WCAG 2.0 or above guidelines, and presents them to customers with suggested remediation actions.
  • Remediates Electronic Information Recourses such as Excel, PDF (regardless of how they were created), PPT documents with accessibility standard, Accessible PDF form creation
  • Works with agency EIR accessibility coordinator in developing training materials.
  • Serves as a co-presenter in training sessions focusing on creating electronic information resources across various applications.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
