Business Analyst - Finance and Accounting

Key Responsibilities

• Perform data analysis, data cleanup, and data conversion tasks as assigned.
• Analyze large and complex datasets to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
• Reconcile financial data and ensure proper classification of receivables, payables, revenue, assets, cash, grants, payroll, disbursements, contracts, and projects.
• Record and adjust accounting entries in accordance with standard accounting practices.
• Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a related field (10 years of relevant governmental accounting experience may substitute education on a year-for-year basis).
• Extensive experience with the Accounting Information Resource system, including transactions, ledger management, and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of the State chart of accounts.
• Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and reconcile data, including deep familiarity with 29-digit account code streams and general ledger balances.
• Proficiency in identifying data inconsistencies, determining root causes, and recommending solutions.
• Ability to build tools for efficient and accurate data correction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with central and departmental records reconciliation.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including macros and complex formulas.
• Experience with scripting and automation tools for data uploads.
• Experience preparing accounting entries using transaction TR10.
• Background in data cleansing and requirements gathering.
• Involvement in financial system design, testing, or implementation.
• Proven leadership or collaborative experience in cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
