Job Summary:
The General Laborer will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the manufacturing plant to support the production process. The role includes handling materials, operating machinery, performing quality checks, and ensuring the smooth flow of operations. The General Laborer will work collaboratively with the team to maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- De-stack and stack doors, removing cardboard from the middle.
- Operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently, including training new and existing operators.
- Inspect products for defects and take corrective actions as per work instructions.
- Perform visual quality checks on entire stacks as they come down the conveyor.
- Repair newly and previously identified doors with quality defects.
- Restack doors that meet quality specifications.
- Push pallets along the conveyor and place unrepairable doors in the cull door stack.
- Complete reject sheets for tickets to be remade.
- Operate jump tracks and straighten doors.
- Push door stacks onto infeed tracks of the paint booth.
- Use various tools such as glue guns, palm sanders, chisels, putty knives, and clamps for product assembly and repair.
- Conduct measurements and weight checks as needed.
- Assemble products according to instructions with an emphasis on quality and safety.
- Practice Client sonite Lean Manufacturing techniques, including 5S 1.
- Communicate effectively with employees and leadership to ensure timely production of quality products.
- Read and interpret list counts and complete departmental paperwork correctly and timely.
- Perform weekly EHS audits and participate in Safety and Client Plant Kaizens.
- Help create and implement poke yokes for quality improvements.
- Follow production schedules, set up and adjust equipment, and gather materials as needed.
- Operate motorized equipment (e.g., forklifts, KVAL lifts) as necessary.
- Perform minor preventative maintenance and operator care as required.
- Assist Management, Maintenance, and Quality personnel when troubleshooting equipment, process, or material issues.
- Maintain downtime records and production information.
- Perform housekeeping duties and maintain a clean work environment.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety rules and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to safely operate machinery and tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform quality inspections.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Good communication skills to work with team members and leadership.
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S 1).
- Ability to follow safety rules and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to lift and move materials as needed.
Preferred Qualifications (if any):
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or labor role.
- Experience with motorized equipment, such as forklifts or KVAL lifts.
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing or Kaizen processes.
Certifications (if any):
- Forklift Certification (preferred, but not required).
- Lean Manufacturing Certification (preferred, but not required).
