Job Summary :

The Production Operator II is responsible for executing assigned production tasks to ensure the right levels of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance, quality, service, and cost control. This role involves taking ownership of production assets, maintaining high operational standards, and participating in continuous improvement activities. The operator will perform a variety of tasks, including operating machinery, maintaining inventory, and ensuring all production processes meet the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Production and Equipment Operation :
  • Operate production assets in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to established procedures and industry best practices.
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks, including preventative maintenance, process data collection, and required administration.
  • Take ownership of production targets, ensuring that all shift team goals are met while maintaining the appropriate quality standards.
  • Report safety, quality, and process issues to the Team Leader or Shift Supervisor and issue corrective action or hazard reports as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for HSE, Quality, ALPS, and other operational systems.
  • Contribute to color adjustment activities, where applicable, in line with agreed procedures and control systems.
  • Comply with all applicable corporate, site, and laboratory policies and procedures regarding personal conduct, HSE, and Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs (PSRA).
  • Tank Washing :
  • Clean portable tanks, valves, filters, pumps, and other equipment using chemicals, pressure washers, brushes, scrapers, and other cleaning tools.
  • Operate automated tank washing machines and manually clean portable tanks as necessary.
  • Pre-Kitting & Material Coordination :
  • Maintain accurate storage and management of raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods, while obtaining materials needed for batch makers, adjusters, tinters, and fill-off operators.
  • Operate a forklift to move materials as needed and perform daily forklift inspections.
  • Assist with the management of hazardous waste, ensuring containers are properly labeled, dated, and taken to the accumulation area when full.
  • Batch Making :
  • Add raw materials in the prescribed order on the batch ticket, ensuring proper weighing and measurement for yield and accuracy.
  • Coordinate sample testing with QC and make necessary adjustments to batches as instructed by the QC team.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following safety procedures.
  • Fill-Off :
  • Transfer completed products into containers of various sizes, from 1-gallon cans to large tankers.
  • Ensure containers are properly labeled and sealed, with all necessary documentation completed, including batch tickets.
  • Inspect filled containers for leaks and ensure all safety and quality standards are followed.
  • Perform regular housekeeping duties in the filling and packaging areas.
  • Milling / Grinding Operation :
  • Operate machine controls to achieve the desired flow and temperature specifications.
  • Demonstrate competency in lock-out / tag-out and other safety procedures.
  • Lift and handle heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) and maneuver drums up to 900 lbs.
  • Set up and break down the mill, including selecting media and screens, and ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.

Job Requirements :

Education & Experience :

  • High School Diploma required; prior experience in a paint manufacturing or similar manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Prior manufacturing experience and knowledge of batch processes, inventory management, and production equipment are desirable.
  • English proficiency is required; basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) is preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities :

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety instructions and operational guidelines.
  • Ability to pass forklift certification and operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail, including accurate measurement, labeling, and documentation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy containers (up to 75 lbs) and operate manual and automated equipment.
  • Arm-hand steadiness and good near vision to read labels and measure materials accurately.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemical agents and varying environmental conditions (e.g., hot / cold environments, inclement weather).
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Must be able to work in a heavy manufacturing setting with physical lifting, bending, and maneuvering of large materials.
  • Safety & Compliance :
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment by following all safety guidelines and participating in safety programs.
  • Ability to understand and comply with HSE policies, including proper handling of hazardous waste and chemicals.
