Job Summary :
The Pharmacy Technician supports the medication dispensing process by performing order entry tasks and related activities. This role includes verifying dosages based on prescriptions, contacting physicians for narcotic prescriptions, and ensuring the timely processing of new and refill orders. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting in the pharmacy workflow.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform order entry tasks and related activities to support medication dispensing.
- Calculate and verify correct dosages based on prescriptions.
- Contact physicians to obtain hard copies of narcotic prescriptions as per state regulations.
- Ensure timely entry of new and refill orders, processing them based on assigned priorities.
- Prepare backup pharmacy orders as needed.
- Adhere to medication labeling guidelines in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide dispensing pharmacists with information regarding allergies, drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, and other flagged items.
- Assist internal and external customers with inquiries and concerns.
- Clarify prescription orders with dispensing pharmacists, addressing non-stock items or order entry issues.
- Complete all required data fields using approved abbreviations.
- Triage customer service requests by department, urgency, and required response.
- Collect, prioritize, and sort incoming faxes, directing them to the appropriate department.
- Create and maintain accurate customer records.
- Manage the "STAT" order process, including checking e-kit stock and faxing back to the customer.
- Understand and apply Medicare Policy and Co-Pay requirements / guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable government regulations.
- Assist with pharmacy workflow as needed, maintaining high standards of ethical conduct and patient confidentiality.
- Uphold professional and ethical standards, ensuring all medication needs and regulatory compliance are met.
