Job Summary
The Viral Research Scientist I is responsible for performing basic cell culture techniques, viral propagation, and analytical proof of concept (POC) experiments. This role involves executing in vitro assays to evaluate viral stocks, ensuring the validity of test results, and minimizing repeated work. The scientist will also support the viral research team through data acquisition, reporting, and communication, while maintaining proper documentation and adhering to laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Cell Culture and Viral Propagation :
- Perform basic cell culture techniques for isolation of primary cells and passage of cell lines.
- Assist with the execution of viral propagation experiments and analytical POC experiments.
- In Vitro Analytical Assays :
- Execute in vitro assays such as viral titration, PCR, ELISA, and virus neutralization to evaluate and qualify viral stocks.
- Ensure all assays are performed with minimal supervision, producing valid results with reduced need for repeated work.
- Data Acquisition and Reporting :
- Accurately record all experimental data and test results in laboratory notebooks and generate documentation such as method protocols, research reports, and SOPs.
- Maintain proper inventory of laboratory supplies and ensure experiments are supported with necessary resources.
- Collaboration and Communication :
- Provide quality support to the viral research team through clear communication, data analysis, and collaboration with local development teams, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and quality control.
- Maintain constructive working relationships across teams, ensuring successful execution of research objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance and Safety :
- Comply with applicable regulations and perform all work safely and responsibly, following standard operating procedures and corporate policies.
