Schedule: Mon-Fri | Onsite for first 2 weeks of training, Remote after that
Description:
We are seeking an experienced Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Designer with expertise in broadband Hybrid Fiber-Coax (HFC) design. This role will primarily involve designing fiber routes, creating splice documents, and utilizing a range of software tools such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Spatial, and others to work with both existing and new build fiber optic cables. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of fiber design, OSP construction, and engineering principles. After receiving training on OSP HFC design, you will work independently to support fiber design documentation and ensure project success.

Core Responsibilities:

• Design and develop layouts for OSP and ISP Fiber design, ensuring accurate representation of cable routes and infrastructure.
• Create ISP patch panel diagrams and cable rack layouts for fiber network designs.
• Generate bills of materials, splice sheets, and other critical supporting documentation for fiber design projects.
• Review completed designs to identify and resolve any errors or inefficiencies.
• Ensure all design specifications are maintained and meet the required standards.
• Analyze OTDR traces, evaluate fiber characteristics, and document the test results.
• Assist in troubleshooting fiber circuits for light and path continuity to ensure high network performance.
• Analyze current design processes and identify opportunities for improving efficiency.
• Support the team by creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation.
• Provide fiber design support to specialists and the leadership team.
• May advise, train, and mentor junior designers.
• Additional duties as assigned by the leadership team.

Requirements:

• Experience or equivalent education/certification with AutoCAD, Microstation, Spatial, or ESRI is required.
• Strong candidates will have a deep understanding of fiber design, especially in HFC systems, and be familiar with software tools like Spatial and ArcGIS. Familiarity with Iris is a plus, as the team is transitioning to this software.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
• Visual design skills are highly desired.
• Knowledge of easement, right-of-way, and permit documents is a plus.
• Demonstrated competence in design methodology, process, and metrics.
• Hands-on experience designing and/or constructing telecommunications fiber networks is essential.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to think creatively and strategically.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience.
