STEM Instructor

Computer Explorers is looking for part-time STEM Instructors to teach our exciting TechStars after-school classes and summer camps to children in the Chicago suburbs.

Do You Have What It Take?

· You have experience teaching, tutoring and/or managing children, with a focus on making learning fun

· You are excited and comfortable around technology

· You are dependable with reliable transportation to travel, with equipment to the varying teaching locations

What is the Job About?

This is a perfect position for someone who loves working with children, wants to promote an atmosphere of collaboration, problem solving, creative thinking, accomplishment and doesn’t want to create the lesson plans. The curriculum is written around software, apps and supporting peripherals, that make learning fun, in our hands-on project-based classes.

You would be working with children from ages 4 to 6 and/or 7 to 12 years. Teaching between 1 to 4 classes per week. Each class is between 1 – 1½ hours each.

Where is the Job?

Classes and camps are located at varying Park Districts and Rec Centers in the Western and NW Chicago suburbs i.e. Bloomingdale, Buffalo Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Mt. Prospect, Palatine, River Forest, Schaumburg and more.

You would not be working at all of these locations; we want to keep you close to home.

Time Requirements?

· Classes are held Monday – Thursday (occasional a weekend day for a birthday party)

Each individual instructor’s schedule will vary, depending on location(s) assigned per 4-week session

· Class times are after-school and/or early evenings

· Arriving at the assigned teaching location prior to class start time for set-up and time after class to take-down the equipment (which could be laptops, Lego kits, robots, etc.)

· Training for a new class

· Exchange equipment in between the class session (monthly during the school year, weekly during the summer)

Pay?

· $25.00 - $30.00 per teaching/contact hour

· $15.00 per hour for training and/or staff meetings

Who is Computer Explorers?

In 1984, Computer Explorers (CE) was founded on the idea that all children should have access to a quality technology education. Today, CE programs reach students every week throughout the Chicagoland area. Our instructors prepare children for the future at preschools, daycares, schools and community centers. Technology and computers are essential in our lives; both help enhance knowledge, test scores, creativity, problem solving and learning. It has been proven time and time again that technology education increases children’s skills and knowledge in other academic areas including math, science, reasoning, language arts, and critical thinking.
