CTG's premier client has a contract assignment for a Software & Computer Systems Engineer III .

Job Title : Software & Computer Systems Engineer III

Location : Corning, NY

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Corning, NY

Pay Rate : Based on experience

Work Hours : M-F 8am-5pm

Education : Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)

This position is very in-depth with integrating hardware into software. This position may include leading initiatives, not people, though a candidate may need to assign tasks as needed. BA required. Manager is not looking for a software engineer.

Description :

We are seeking an engineer with a robust background in imaging systems, hardware, and electronics to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the full development lifecycle of high-precision glass stress metrology instruments. This position involves leading the development and integration of hardware components such as cameras, motors, optics, lasers, and control boards, contributing directly to cutting-edge advancements in glass stress metrology technology. The candidate will become a subject matter expert on the instrument, focusing on its functionality, setup, and optimization. While foundational software engineering skills are required, the opportunity to develop and enhance software engineering expertise will be available on the job.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities :

  • Contribute to the design, development, and integration of hardware components including cameras, motors, optics, lasers, and control boards.
  • Apply knowledge of imaging systems and electronics to develop and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable hardware integration techniques.
  • Optimize instrument performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks and bugs in hardware integration.
  • Engage in the complete product development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and deployment, focusing on hardware integration.
  • Become a subject matter expert on the instrument, understanding its functionality, setup, and optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver new hardware features and innovations.
  • Provide expert guidance and support in the development and troubleshooting of complex hardware-software solutions.
  • Continuously update professional knowledge and technical skills in physics, optics, hardware, and electronics.
  • Continue to grow and evolve technical knowledge in software development, hardware integration, and best practices.

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration) :

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Required Skills :

  • Strong knowledge of imaging systems, engineering, and electronics.
  • Experience with hardware development and integration.
  • Practical experience with optical and laser hardware.
  • Background in the instrumentation industry, particularly in metrology or related fields.
  • Intermediate proficiency in software engineering, with a willingness to develop these skills.
  • Familiarity with code versioning tools (e.g., Git).
  • Desired Skills :

  • Hands-on experience working with hardware and integrating hardware APIs.
  • Experience with motor control and related hardware interfaces.
  • Experience with MVVM architectural patterns.
  • Familiarity with modern unit testing frameworks and methods.
  • Prior experience with WPF / MVVM frameworks.
  • Soft Skills :

  • Ability to lead or contribute to multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with international teams.
  • Strong technical risk mitigation skills.
  • Clear, concise oral and written communication skills.
