About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Server Administrator to join our team. In this role, the candidate will administer, maintain, and optimize the company’s server infrastructure, ensuring its smooth operation and adherence to industry best practices. They will work closely with other IT staff and internal stakeholders to provide reliable and secure server services that support company's business needs.
Position Responsibilities:
- Administration and Maintenance: Oversee the efficient functioning of internal application servers and ensure their optimal performance.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as patching, updates, backups, and troubleshooting.
- Monitor server health, identify potential issues, and take proactive steps to prevent downtime.
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect server assets and data.
- Hardware and Software Management: Manage the entire lifecycle of server hardware and software, including specification, procurement, configuration, and deployment.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure compatibility and integration of new server deployments.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices for server technologies.
- Scripting and Automation: Utilize scripting languages, primarily PowerShell, to automate repetitive tasks and improve efficiency.
- Develop and maintain scripts for server management, configuration, and deployment.
- Continuously seek opportunities to automate manual processes and streamline server operations.
- Group Policy and Active Directory: Effectively manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce consistent configuration and security settings across servers.
- Manage user accounts and permissions in Active Directory to ensure secure access to server resources.
- Understand and troubleshoot Active Directory issues.
- Disaster Recovery and Backup: Participate in the development and implementation of disaster recovery plans for server and data protection.
- Conduct regular backups of server data and ensure recovery procedures are tested and functional.
- Be prepared to respond to and recover from server outages or other disruptions.
- Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of server configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders about server operations and issues.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing and training activities within the IT team.
- Security Policies and Procedures Implementation:
- Assist in planning and implementing server, services, and data network security policies and procedures.
- Contribute to creating a robust security framework to protect organizational assets.
- Email Services and Telecommunications Administration:
- Assist in administering email services (e.g., exchange) and telecommunications (e.g., Zoom, Avaya) for employees/students.
- Ensure seamless communication channels and efficient collaboration.
- Customer Support and Technology Assistance:
- Provide support for customer requests and deliver desktop technology support as required.
- Foster a positive user experience through prompt and effective technical assistance.
- Other Assigned Duties:
- Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility, goal orientation, a positive attitude, and effective teamwork.
Position Requirements:
Education: Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related business discipline. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Extensive experience and qualifications may be substituted for education on a case-by-case basis.
Certifications: Highly desirable candidates will possess certifications in any computer-related area or concentration, with a preference for those with expertise in server, client/server (e.g., Microsoft, Linux, Exchange, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of prior experience in server/application support, implementation, and administration. Preference is given to candidates with additional expertise.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Servers, IIS, Intune, Custom package deployments, Active Directory (Azure/on-premises), Group Policy, Exchange (0365 / on-premises), Scripting (PowerShell) and SAN administration.
- Practical experience with Linux/LAMP, network/computer security, Windows desktop OS, applications suite support, and familiarity with trouble ticketing systems.
- Basic knowledge of Cisco switching/routing is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex issues efficiently.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a distributed team setting, including interactions with vendors, resellers, and partners.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders to install equipment.
Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
