Network Support Specialist

About the Role: We are seeking a Network Support Specialist to oversee the functions of the Network Operations Center (NOC) located at Pearl Harbor. This role involves monitoring, configuring, and troubleshooting network devices.

Key Responsibilities:

• You will be a member of the Network Operations Center (NOC) working in a 24x7x365 NOC (shift work required).
• Responsibilities will include monitoring, analyzing, troubleshooting, and rapidly taking actions to resolve network events in real time; dispatching and guiding transport and Outside Plant field techs to resolve faults quickly and restore services.
• Assist with operation of a complex transport and communications services network made up of both legacy and new technologies. The legacy transport technologies include analog over copper, DS0/1/3 TDM (ADC/CAC/TelCo), SONET OC3/12/48/192 (Cisco/Fujitsu), and DWDM (Cisco). New Technology Ciena OTN/OTE transport networks, Cisco 4200 series MPLS transport network, and Cisco VoIP/UC services to the desktop.

The NOC also monitors, reports, and initiates resolution of alarms on generators, power ATS, battery plants, and air conditioning systems at 20 central offices and microwave locations across the State of Hawaii.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Experience:

Any previous experience with the configuration of network devices, such as those listed under the Responsibility paragraph above, previous experience working on military bases/sites, including previous military service adds value but is not required. Ability to work in an organized fashion with focus on documenting activity, following processes, and escalating events when needed.

• Flexibility to occasionally work an unusual schedule due to absences and vacations
• Ability to work independently with little supervision/guidance
• Entry level experience with Cisco, Ciena, and/or TDM/SONET legacy systems
• Entry level experience provisioning one or more of the following: optical modems, ONS15454 MSPP/MSTP, Ciena 6500 OTN, Cisco switches, routers, ISRs, CUCM, SONUS, analog Voice Gateways
• General understanding of network topologies, both legacy and IP transport/networking
• Ability to work as a team in a dynamic environment
• Ability to learn troubleshooting, configuration, and restoration of network services across multiple networks and systems using multiple, equipment specific, EMS applications
• Willingness to take ownership of tasks, insuring documentation of all activity performed related to the ticket’s subject matter (troubleshooting steps performed, results, customer interactions, etc.)

Education and Experience:

• High school completion is the minimum level required
• Cisco CCENT/CCNA or work toward obtaining certifications is a plus
• Existing Security certification is a plus but not required
• Relevant experience in a similar role is advantageous

Must be a US Citizen and eligible for Department of Defense Secret Clearance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
