Job Description
Client is an established and reputable consulting engineering firm that provides civil, water/wastewater, environmental, transportation, mechanical and electrical planning, engineering and construction management services to public and private sector clients. The firm has several offices in Ohio and has an immediate opening for a Senior Roadway/Highway Engineer at its Columbus, Ohio (Headquarters) Office.
Duties and Responsibilities
The client is currently initiating a search for a Senior Roadway/Highway Engineer to join our growing Transportation and Infrastructure Team. This candidate shall perform the following:
- Provide subject matter technical support and leadership for improvement, and/or construction of roadway and highway transportation infrastructure projects in the public and private sector including roadway rehabilitations, new roadway designs, interstate widening/expansions, roundabouts, toll-lanes, intersection improvements, and bridge rehabilitations.
- Provide situational guidance to junior engineers ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.
- Assist in the management, growth, and development of the client’s transportation group.
- Plan, organize and supervise engineering activities on roadway/highway transportation related projects.
- Represent projects and the firm at meetings and conferences.
- Make recommendations on project staffing.
- Assist with technical concepts in proposal development, preliminary design phases, and presentations to client.
- Assure that engineering services are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements, budget control scheduling, cost engineering/control, quality control and project objectives.
- Provide innovative solutions related to the design of roads, highways, roundabouts, intersections, sidewalks, transit structures, and other significant transportation projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with owners, contractors, and sub-consultants.
- Maintain and continue to develop the firm’s reputation for technical excellence in transportation engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or closely related discipline (master’s degree is a plus).
- 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
- Professional Engineer license required in the State of Ohio (multi-state a plus).
- Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
- Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
- Supervise/review a variety of design and analysis functions for road/highway and related projects.
