Comunilife Inc. is looking to fill a Recreational Counselor position for its Brooklyn Congregate Program. The Recreational Counselor is responsible for the provision, planning and coordination of recreational activities at the program. They are responsible for the assessment and recommendation for appropriate activities; lead and co-lead activity groups and encourage clients’ participation in community events. They will also be responsible for planning and coordinating special events and holidays activities as well as provide recreation related trainings to staff. This position is eligible to participate in Comunilife's generous benefits and paid time off package.
Essential Duties:

Develop and implement recreational program.

Provide assistance with activities for daily living as it relates to the use of recreational activities to clients to increase their capacity for independent living

Develop and implement weekly recreational activities including arts & crafts, games, music and other activities based on client population needs

Coordinate field trips and outings, i.e., movies, plays, concerts and sporting events

Document clients’ progress and participation in the chart

Establish network of community resources that will provide recreational therapeutic activities

Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings, as required

Collaborates with Case Manager and/or Substance Abuse or Mental Health Counselors in the development of recreation related long and short term goals as needed

Provide recreation related training and instruction to staff
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirement(s)

Prefer Certified Recreation Therapists Specialist (CRTS) certification, Master’s Degree with two years direct work experience or minimum of Bachelor’s Degree (prefer Recreation Education or Therapeutic Recreation) with at least three to five years’ experience.

Experience with HIV/AIDS afflicted individuals, chronic mental illness, substance abuse individuals and their families a plus

Bilingual skills in English/Spanish a plus
Salary : $40,000 - $40,800
