Job Summary:
As a Product Owner, you will partner closely with Product Management to prepare the team’s backlog for Program Increment (PI) Planning and Big Room Planning sessions. This role requires a hands-on approach, working cross-functionally and focusing on delivering value to customers. Responsibilities:
- Develop a deep understanding of customer experience, especially at a tactical and transactional level.
- Build and maintain the Agile (Scrum/Sprint) Team backlog, incorporating input from various stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Agile teams and stakeholders to write user stories and requirements, including acceptance criteria and acceptance tests, typically for 1 or 2 Agile Teams.
- Review and prioritize the Agile Team backlog for Iteration Planning, coordinating dependencies with other Product Owners.
- Review and assess enabler work, collaborating with System and Solution Architects/Engineering to assist in decision-making and sequencing of technical infrastructure work.
- Serve as the primary point of contact (and source of truth) for the Technical (Dev) team and Customer team, ensuring clarity and providing real-time answers to user story-related questions.
- Manage and maintain an efficient flow of just-in-time story elaboration (user story refinement), typically keeping 3 iterations (sprints) worth of user stories ready in the team backlog.
- Participate in team demos with the primary responsibility of reviewing and accepting completed user stories (only the Product Owner can accept stories as “done”), ensuring they meet acceptance criteria and the team’s Definition of Done (DoD).
- Participate in Iteration Retrospectives to improve processes and support the Agile Release Train’s (ART’s) Inspect and Adapt (I&A) workshop.
- Coordinate user story, functional, and technical dependencies with other Product Owners throughout each iteration and Program Increment, often through weekly PO/ART sync meetings.
- Work across Agile teams to define and implement improvement stories aimed at increasing the velocity and quality of the program.
- Hold accountability for the quality and performance of user stories in the production environment.
- Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in an Agile environment.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Sprint) and Agile team dynamics.
- Solid experience in backlog management, writing user stories, and defining acceptance criteria.
- Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, both technical and non-technical.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between business and technical teams.
- Problem-solving skills to identify customer needs and translate them into actionable tasks for the development team.
- Ability to prioritize and manage dependencies across teams and program increments.
