About the role:
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support to project managers and assist Director of Engineering in the design and field execution of power & control wiring for packaging production lines. The position’s priorities are divided between 50% interfacing with clients and vendors, 25% time spent on controls and networking, and 25% on power distribution.
What you'll do:
- Scope electrical projects.
- Evaluate existing conditions and define the power distribution and calculation requirements for each project/site. This includes layout and sizing of the following systems:
- Conductors/wiring
- Electrical pathways
- Overcurrent Protection
- Short-circuit ratings
- Review network communication infrastructure and design plans to interface equipment to those networks
- Review control systems for packaging lines
- Sequence of operation: identify sensor locations and how sensors control equipment
- Review schematics, proposals and layout drawings for specification and safety compliance
- Provide support for start-up and the production of the packaging line
- Evaluate existing conditions and define the power distribution and calculation requirements for each project/site. This includes layout and sizing of the following systems:
- Conduct field audits to document existing conditions and develop as-built and new detailed engineering documents including one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and load calculations per N.E.C. standards
- Offer engineering and design consultation based on sound electrical engineering practices
- Assist in maintaining project schedules, assuring work is completed on time and under budget
- Communicate with vendors, clients, and contractors
- Perform technical writing duties to document project requirements
Our ideal candidate:
Education and experience
- B.S Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5 years of relevant experience in a high-speed packaging manufacturing, or system design environment
- Technical manufacturing knowledge and practical project management experience preferred
- Manufacturing field experience, especially in the food and beverage industry, is strongly preferred
- A background in a production environment as a project engineer, maintenance manager, and/or production manager preferred
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Project; AutoCAD
- 25-30% travel expected to client sites, depending on project needs.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Experience with safety measures
- Experience with developing permit drawings for submittal to city & county plan checks
- Proficient in Auto CAD and the N.E.C.
- Proficient in RS Logix programming software is a bonus
- Ability to operate successfully with minimal supervision

- Excellent technical skills and knowledge of manufacturing project planning, process systems, equipment, and operations

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand or walk for long periods of time (6-8 hours); climb stairs and ladders and navigate all areas of a construction zone and functioning plant environment; operate measuring equipment; work at a computer; talk and hear, and to comply with all safety regulations. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The work usually is performed in an office environment, occasionally in a manufacturing or construction environment, with frequent travel to sites required. The manufacturing environment is usually noisy and may be hot, cold, and/or wet. Long and off-shift hours are occasionally required. Safety shoes, safety vests, and safety glasses, as well as ear protection, are required when on-site at client manufacturing or construction locations. Hair nets and beard nets are also required when on-site at client manufacturing locations.
