The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a vital leadership role in supporting the Chief Engineer in the daily operations of the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for supervising engineering staff, managing maintenance systems, and ensuring the overall safety, functionality, and comfort of the hotel. The Assistant Chief Engineer also leads the implementation and oversight of the Quore work order management system, ensuring departmental compliance with brand standards and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in overseeing all engineering operations including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and general facility maintenance to ensure guest and associate safety and satisfaction.
- Supervise, train, and schedule engineering staff to maintain consistent performance and adherence to Marriott service standards.
- Lead the implementation, management, and ongoing training for the Quore maintenance platform, ensuring accurate documentation, timely follow-up, and compliance with property and Marriott guidelines.
- Monitor department use of Quore to ensure all work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, guest requests, and inspections are completed and logged properly.
- Support the development and execution of the property's Preventive Maintenance Program (PMP) in alignment with brand standards and engineering best practices.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment rooms, guest areas, and public spaces to identify maintenance needs and ensure proper functioning of all systems.
- Maintain records and logs for equipment readings, repairs, and completed work orders.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors on maintenance projects, repairs, and capital improvements.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, including fire alarms, water intrusion, and equipment failures, in accordance with emergency protocols.
- Ensure departmental compliance with OSHA, local building codes, fire safety regulations, and Marriott environmental and safety standards.
- Assist in monitoring energy usage and implementing energy-saving initiatives throughout the property.
- Help maintain accurate inventory of tools, parts, and maintenance supplies.
- Serve as acting Chief Engineer in the absence of the Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in hotel engineering, facility maintenance, or building operations, preferably in a full-service hotel setting.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience in engineering or maintenance roles.
- Strong technical background in HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and life safety equipment.
- Demonstrated experience using or implementing Quore or similar computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA codes, EPA compliance, and industry best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, HVAC Certification, or other relevant technical licenses are a plus.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and participation in the property’s on-call rotation.
