The Direct Support Professional II (DSP II) position is assigned a shift where the job requirements will involve training and support services for people with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities. Assignments may include group home shifts, community services such as training/appointments/respite & office duties. Work involves providing rehabilitative services with the goal of assisting each person to become as independent as possible. The Direct Support Professional II position provides daily living, personal hygiene, social skills training and behavioral management skills training, as needed, for each person. Additional duties may include general maintenance of Center vehicles and cleaning duties around the home. Services provided are to be delivered in a timely manner and accuracy of documentation is a requirement. The Direct Support Professional II position provides all services in accordance with the Texas Administrative Code for HCS & TxHmL and the IDD Service Definition Manual provided by DADS.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from a standard high school or provide documentation that the General Equivalency Examination has been obtained.
- Six (6) months experience in therapeutic work preferred.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
- Knowledge of behavioral direct support techniques as well as the ability to perform PMAB techniques.
- Skills to sufficiently administer CPR or First Aid in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of personal assistance techniques such as: assisting with eating, bathing, and toileting.
- Knowledge of turning and lifting techniques is required.
- Interpersonal skills for positive interactions with people served and co-workers are required.
- Skills necessary to read, understand and act upon written material and verbal requests.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
- Must not have more than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years.
- Must be insurable and remain insurable on Center’s insurance.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
SHIFT
Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. - 12 a.m.
