General Description:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. The CFO will oversee all financial and fiscal operations of a $17 million nonprofit organization, ensuring the organization's financial health, integrity, and alignment with its mission. This leadership role will be responsible for the development, execution, and monitoring of the organization’s financial strategies, fiscal policies, and internal controls. The CFO will also provide strategic financial leadership to support the organization’s growth, sustainability, and long-term financial goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Financial Leadership
- Lead the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes for the organization.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the CEO and the Board of Directors on financial and business matters.
- Support the organization’s fundraising efforts by providing financial analysis and insights to assist in grant applications, donor reporting, and fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor financial performance against the budget and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Oversight of Fiscal Department
- Supervise the Director of Fiscal, who leads a team consisting of two fiscal managers, a staff accountant, and a fiscal clerk. Ensure the team is trained, developed, and equipped to effectively support the organization’s fiscal operations.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Board, CEO, and other stakeholders.
- Review and approve the organization's financial policies, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, legal requirements, and best practices.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the CEO, the Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders.
- Conduct financial analysis and recommend actions based on key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve financial performance.
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure the organization’s financial operations are in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
- Manage relationships with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process.
- Lead the development and implementation of internal controls to mitigate financial risks, fraud, and errors.
- Budgeting and Financial Planning
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget in collaboration with the CEO, Department Leaders, and other senior staff.
- Monitor budget performance throughout the fiscal year, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to meet organizational goals.
- Provide strategic financial insights to support decision-making and long-term planning initiatives.
- Cash Flow and Investment Management
- Monitor the organization's cash flow to ensure liquidity and the ability to meet financial obligations.
- Oversee investments and manage the organization’s financial assets to maximize returns while minimizing risk.
- Staff Development & Team Leadership
- Mentor, develop, and evaluate the Fiscal Department team, providing clear direction and support for professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative, results-driven environment that supports high levels of employee engagement, accountability, and performance.
- Technology and Systems Oversight
- Oversee the implementation and ongoing optimization of financial software systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and management.
- Ensure financial systems and processes are secure, automated where possible, and aligned with the organization’s needs.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- At least 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit financial management, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance regulations (FASB, 990, etc.).
- Experience in managing a finance team, preferably in a complex nonprofit environment.
- Proven ability to build and sustain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, staff, Board members, donors, and auditors.
- Excellent financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency with financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). RAMP and Sage experience a preferred.

Salary : $140,000 - $155,000
