General Description:
The Community Engagement Specialist is lead steward for this relationship portfolio and works to engage the community in the full range of initiatives, events, partnerships, and bodies of work that advance the office’s overarching mission. A successful candidate will be a high-energy multi-tasker with experience and demonstrated success in working in the community; understand the critical role of engagement in driving program participation and community collaboration; have a natural connection to and passion for lifting our youth; and demonstrate excellent judgment and an ability to act quickly and in the best interest of the office and residents of Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will be resourceful, curious, creative, comfortable with taking the initiative and leading projects, hard- and fast-working, a team player, detail-oriented, and imaginative, and have a sense of urgency about the work. The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for providing services to students and families, including outreach, planning and implementing activities, and evaluating the needs of students and families.This position also will educate and inform families on accessing desired/necessary services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the key point of contact for families for general community matters and resources.
- Develop, promote, implement, and track family engagement programming in cooperation with families, staff, and leaders.
- Promote the agency at specific local community events.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of trainings and other program events.
- Document and track all services in accordance with state/county standards and agency policy.
- Track referrals for placements and coordinate placements during working hours.
- Participate in weekly supervision and monthly staff meetings.
- Engage families from diverse backgrounds in developing a strong vision and plan for community engagement.
- Be point of contact for community outreach events.
- Conduct a needs assessment process, including reviewing community data, conducting focus groups with parents, students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.
- Other duties as assigned by the Marketing Manager in response to a rapidly changing environment.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience leading and collaborating with team members and various. stakeholders preferably in the field of family engagement.
- Experience with designing and implementing strategic family engagement practices, programs/events.
- Experience in cultivating strong relationships with schools, community organizations, and/or community stakeholders.
- Knowledge of multiple educational technology platforms, including, but not limited to, electronic mail and calendars, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, E-Learning, and Adobe products.
- Ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds, including age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, and lived experiences • Understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Experience working with low-income, diverse, and historically disadvantaged communities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and Experience in strategic planning and implementation.
- Excellent time management, scheduling, and planning skills.
- Must be willing to work with a team.
- Must understand the importance of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the social services network in Philadelphia is a plus.
- FBI, Pennsylvania Childline, and Criminal Background Clearances.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to build authentic relationships with racially, socio-economically, and gender-diverse communities.
- High level of professionalism and collaborative spirit.
- Ability to excel in time-pressured and high-energy environments.
- Ability to navigate social media.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, in order to meet the needs of community residents and youth, and to be present at community functions Successful candidates must:

Salary : $40,000 - $43,000
