Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with children in either an educational or recreational setting
- Possesses a strong background in ceramics, including hand-building, wheel-throwing, and glazing techniques
- Familiarity with kiln operation, clay preparation, and safe ceramics practices
- Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a busy camp setting
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Good character, integrity and adaptability
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Enthusiasm, patience, self-control and sense of humor
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Plan and lead daily ceramics activities tailored to different age groups (3-5, 6-8, 9-12).
- Be punctual and prepared for your daily activities.
- Teach age appropriate fundamental ceramics techniques, including hand-building, wheel-throwing, and glazing.
- Ensure a safe and engaging learning environment by supervising children and maintaining proper safety protocols.
- Assist campers in creating projects that build skills, encourage creativity, and provide a sense of accomplishment.
- Manage and maintain all ceramics supplies, including clay, tools, kilns, and glazes.
- Prepare and fire projects in the kiln and ensure proper handling of finished pieces.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to integrate ceramics into larger camp themes and special events.
- Maintain equipment and report damages or loss in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized ceramics workplace.
- Communicate with campers, parents, and staff in a positive and professional manner.
- Ability to communicate and work with other staff and provide necessary instruction to campers
- Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
- Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct the activity to achieve camper development objectives
- Ability to work with different age and skill levels
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities
- Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
- Available 8:00am-4:15pm on Mondays and 8:15am-4:15pm, Tuesday – Friday
- Some high-level activity which may include running, dancing, swimming, and jumping
- Occasional lifting, bending, and climbing stairs
- Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting, and standing
- Submit all required paperwork on time.
- Attend all pre-camp trainings and orientation
- Perform other duties as assigned.
