Position: Library Technician
Reports To: High School Principal, Library Media Specialist
Position Description:
The candidate will assist the library media specialist by helping readers in the use of library catalogs, databases, and indexes to locate books and other materials; by answering questions to support students in the Learning Commons; and by ensuring students are using the Learning Commons space for appropriate activities. The candidate will also compile records; sort and shelve books; remove or repair damaged books; and check materials in and out of the circulation process when needed. The Library Technician will also return materials in the shelving area (stacks) or files. This person will oversee all aspects of the library’s current automation system, and lead developments to enhance the library’s web-related activities. The successful candidate will be able to identify, evaluate, implement, and teach the use of new technologies which facilitate information access and community-driven services. Candidate must be highly proficient in a fast-paced, technologically diverse environment and have strong, demonstrated skills in editing, managing media, and backend technology support for a variety of online platforms. This candidate must have a strong ability to interact and work with high school students on a daily basis.
The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills are also required. The candidate must also exercise initiative, tact, discretion, dependability, and sound judgment. The candidate must work cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Major Responsibilities:
Open and close the Learning Commons daily. Hours are 7 am to 3 pm daily.
Assist librarian in managing the Learning Commons space by helping to ensure that students are using the spaces for appropriate activities.
Help students and faculty find and use library resources, such as reference materials, audiovisual equipment, computers, and other electronic resources, and provide technical assistance when needed.
Manage circulation reports such as overdue book reminders and billing for lost items.
Manage the Learning Commons calendar and reserve rooms as requested.
Answer routine reference inquiries by telephone, email, or in person, referring students or faculty to the librarian for further assistance when necessary.
Assist librarian with the implementation and management of diverse digital holdings and resources.
Reserve, circulate, renew, and discharge books and other materials.
Catalog and sort books and other print and non-print materials according to procedure and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
Provide assistance to teachers and students by locating materials and helping to complete special projects.
Assist librarian in maintaining, updating and monitoring all web-based services, including digital database and periodical subscriptions, e-books, and reading in-demand devices and accounts.
Organize and maintain periodicals and reference materials.
Order and maintain library supplies.
Maintain and troubleshoot computers, printers, and other technology inventory problems.
Train student assistants, and schedule and supervise their work.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, students and faculty. Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with those in the CCHS community.
Verify and update student attendance and/or billing for unreturned items in Aspen as necessary
Assist librarian with the planning and execution of the annual Young Adult Author Symposium (YAAS), held at CCHS on a Saturday in mid-November.
All other duties as assigned.
Hourly rate: $26.28-$36.09
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Additional technology training is preferred.
