POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Junior High Math Instructional Coach
  • School/Department: District
  • Supervisor: Principal
  • Terms of Employment: Per the Corporation's contract

Primary Function:


To support mathematics instruction through curriculum creation and assessment, oversee the instructional cycle, lead professional learning community (PLC) discussions, observe classroom instruction, and collaborate with teachers and administrators for increased student achievement.


Essential Functions:

Collaborate with Educators and Administrators to:

  • Assist in instructional planning, and expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to provide high-quality instructional opportunities.
  • Support instruction and curriculum with a variety of content areas.
  • Create and monitor specific, measurable instructional goals in alignment with Concord’s core instructional practices.
  • Establish and support common curriculum maps that align content provided to students both horizontally and vertically.
  • Lead curriculum planning sessions with teachers and administrators.
  • Provide training on formative assessment administration based on the Indiana State Standards.
  • Ensure that student achievement data is routinely collected, reported, and used to drive instructional decisions at the school- and classroom-level, while offering feedback and reflection.
  • Observe in classrooms and provide feedback to support teachers in creating common curricular and instructional goals throughout classrooms.
  • Implement intensive professional development on high-quality instructional practices aligned with the Concord strategic plan and core instructional practices.
  • Analyze data from a district, school, grade-level, classroom, and individual student perspective.
  • Lead and oversee professional learning community (PLC) meetings on a regular basis using data and discussion to determine areas of student need for actionable improvement.
  • Model continuous learning, maintain current progress, and serve as a thoughtful leader for student literacy in the school.
  • Align and support high quality instructional practices in other content areas.
  • Coach and support other content areas, especially those that are new to teaching.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Read, review and consider current research on best practices for content instruction.
  • Considering, researching, and providing insight to best practices for teaching math for English Language learners.
  • Review data, receive training, and plan for the school year during paid summer days.
  • Participate in summer training provided by the district in relation to the position and needs of Concord Schools.
  • Be a resource to educational staff.
  • Support school and district goals, programs, and systems as a member of Concord Community Schools.
  • Instructional coaches will not evaluate teachers' instruction or provide feedback to administrators or supervisors in the evaluation of teachers' instruction.


Essential Qualifications and Characteristics:


  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with a minimum of five years of experience. Expertise related to mathematics content and pedagogy.
  • Valid Indiana Teacher’s License.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with other coaches, teachers, and administrators.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents with skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance and accordance with all IDOE requirements, district requirements and Board of Trustees policies.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of personnel in the organization, including building principals, teachers, and students.

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, employees are regularly required to engage in the following physical activities:


  • Sit, stand, and walk.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Manipulate curricular resources and instructional tools.
  • Frequently lift or carry items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • See objects and people who are both near and far and in the periphery.
