Position Summary for the Buyer
The buyer coordinates the securing of raw materials required to support production schedules by analyzing MRP requirements and issuing purchase orders to suppliers on a timely basis. The buyer is expected to be knowledgeable of processes, vigilant in assuring that materials are aligned with dynamic schedules, and collaborative with plant leadership to rectify factors impacting schedule achievement. The buyer performs a key role in ensuring an unbroken supply of materials to the manufacturing operation. The buyer must also have a thorough knowledge of all our suppliers’ capabilities, the appropriate contacts at the supplier, and all factors influencing the supply of materials.
Job Responsibilities of the Buyer
Primary Responsibilities
· Create and forward purchase orders to suppliers, based on the requirements from MRP signals. Analyze long lead time requirements for items well in advance of plant requirements to ensure these materials are readily available to meet production goals.
· Ensure supplier acknowledgment to comply with the quantity ordered and delivered at the requested arrival date. Continually monitor the purchase order delivery date to ensure the shipment arrives on time and expedite the shipment when necessary.
· Maintain adequate inventory levels by maintaining master data settings as assigned, which are applicable to the purchasing process.
· Provide forecast of future demand to suppliers based upon historical demand, and other major drivers.
· Identify root cause of errors in material tracking processes, BOM accuracy, UOM conversions, etc. that contribute to supply chain challenges.
· Support other Sugar Foods manufacturing facilities by coordinating shipments of ingredients and packaging to those facilities when requested, and when feasible, based on current production requirements.
· Work closely with Accounts Payable and Corporate Sourcing to ensure purchase orders are priced properly, and coordinate with Corporate Sourcing if the supplier acknowledges PO’s at an unauthorized price. Additionally, work with the receiving department in adjusting PO’s to reflect actual receipt quantity.
· Interface with operations, transportation, quality assurance, product development, technical services, packaging, purchasing, and other functional areas.
Enhance Internal Processes
· Be proactive in understanding and rectifying challenges and in communicating to stakeholders
· Be a gatekeeper in identifying potential risks vs smaller issues
· Actively participate in root cause analysis to ensure implementation of viable solutions to meet requirement and supply challenges.
Qualifications/Requirements
· Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing a complex (high number of SKUs) portfolio of products across multiple commodity areas (i.e. flexible films, corrugate, ingredients - preferably packaging food manufacturing)
· Minimum 5 years of proven record of performance and objective accomplishment
· Working experience with MRP platforms (familiarity with Sage helpful, not mandatory)
· Knowledge of manufacturing GMPs and SOPs
· Data analytics skills, and organizing information into presentations
· Bachelor’s degree

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
