Effectively apply the Commercial Lines underwriting process to accomplish the objective of selecting profitable business while maintaining productive relationships with an assigned group of agents. The Commercial Lines Underwriter will accept, reject, or modify policy coverages, and establish a logical pricing approach for new business submissions and policy change requests.

Responsibilities
- Review and analyze risk characteristics associated with small to medium commercial policies
- Work within underwriting guidelines to reject, or modify policy coverages for new business submissions and policy change requests
- Effectively communicate our underwriting guidelines, positive and negative underwriting decisions, and other related matters to agents and other business partners
- Document underwriting files to reflect decision making related to risk selection, pricing and controls
- Collect market intelligence related to emerging issues and underwriting trends for commercial business nationally and in assigned territory
- Develop and maintain strong and effective Agency relationships
- Conduct agency visits to reinforce the partnership between carrier and Agency and to maintain awareness of underwriting positions and expectations
- Participate in agency review meetings for assigned agency group to evaluate performance, outline accomplishments and opportunities, and actively engage in agency development planning and execute on action items
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Bachelor's degree or other post-secondary education required
- 3-5 years' P&C underwriting experience specific to Commercial Lines
- Holding or pursuing industry designations, and certificates is desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong sales presence
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software products
- Effective analytical and time management skills
