Summary
The Nurse Educator, under the direction of the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Practice, demonstrates clinical expertise by incorporating nursing theory and evidence-informed practice. The Nurse Educator participates in the execution of the staff development programs that contribute to the professional growth and development of nursing staff. He/she establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with all disciplines and departments necessary to promote optimal patient outcomes and create a professional practice environment across the Concord Hospital Health System. The Nurse Educator promotes a just culture and a culture of safety. He/she demonstrates commitment to inclusivity and is positioned to be accessible to nursing clinicians in direct patient care. He/she is responsible for professional nursing practice and delivering quality patient care. The role requires competency in adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base. The Nurse Educator exhibits commitment to his/her ongoing professional development as an educator, including seeking feedback and experience across educational modalities, and development of debriefing skills. The Nurse Educator may contribute to educational programs across multiple disciplines and modalities to include didactics, low and high-fidelity simulation, debriefing, in situ simulation, and hands on skill training. The Nurse Educator may develop particular expertise in a specific educational modality or specialty and remains flexible across disciplines.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college. Master's degree in nursing preferred.
Certification, Registration & Licensure
Certification required: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification. Current professional/clinical specialty certification required or to be obtained within a two-year period from date of hire. Certification must be maintained while employed in this position.
Licensure required: Licensed to practice in nursing in the state of New Hampshire
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a clinical nurse with demonstrated evidence of leadership progression.
Demonstrated evidence of competent nursing practice in clinical area or specialty.
Competency in adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base.
Previous teaching/leadership experience desired.
Responsibilities
Orientation, Training, and Professional Development
  • Participates in educational needs assessments and identify learning needs of patients and staff.
  • Facilitates opportunities and developmental experiences necessary for staff to successfully precept, teach, and mentor others.
  • Facilitates educational offerings that incorporate new initiatives, products, equipment, technology, policies, procedures, or regulations in either a classroom, simulated setting, or across patient care areas.
  • Track and monitor orientation progress for all nursing and clinical hires.
  • Support competency training and annual education completion by all staff.
  • Conduct an on-going evaluation of offerings by using the latest evidence, scholarly information, and cost effectiveness strategies.
  • Serves as a nurse practice leader, coach, and mentor to staff.
  • Participates in self-performance appraisal process in an on-going manner.
  • Seeks feedback regarding role performance from his/her respective nurse leaders, peers, and others.
  • Provides formal and informal opportunities for staff to develop personal career goals and recognizes their achievement.
  • Provides ongoing formal and informal feedback regarding professional development to staff members.
  • Facilitate and support peer to peer education.
Consultation/Collaboration
  • Provides informal consultation on education and practice issues.
  • Participates in committees and task forces as designated by the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
  • Initiates and maintains effective collaborative relationships.
  • Responds effectively to request for education and training.
  • Fosters exemplary customer service.
Direct Patient Care
  • Serves as a role model in providing expert care to patients.
  • Engages in direct and/or indirect patient care experiences that promote, facilitates, and evaluates staff's critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Models clinical decision-making skills and critical thinking behaviors in the clinical setting.
  • Provides direct clinical support for orientation and training.
  • Serves as a clinical expert in patient care areas, mainlining and enhancing competency through a variety of methods.
Quality/Research
  • Participates in quality and process improvement initiatives as designated by the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
  • Participates in collaborative care reviews and support improvement efforts as designated by the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
  • Supports education on new initiatives.
  • Supports regulatory preparations and required learning.
  • Develops educational programs that are responsive to needs identified through unit, hospital, and system quality data.
  • Uses new information and/or research finding in developing and revising program content.
  • Serves as a leader, researcher, change agent, and consultant for quality educational opportunities and organizational activities.
