The TRIO SSS Academic Coordinator will be responsible for the management and development of essential academic programming and services.
The Program Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Director to develop, plan, and implement support services which result in increased academic performance, retention and degree completion.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
Academic Advising – Perform intensive academic advising practices to participants with special focus on students within their first two years of college.
- Intensive academic advising includes meeting with students weekly to bi-weekly to monitor progress toward academic goals and to develop graduation plans/register for upcoming semesters.
- Establish a strong working relationship with students.
- Maintain a caseload of students
- Manage and provide availability in student appointment scheduling system
- Maintain regular outreach to students about course planning, registration timelines, and related dates.
- Develop and maintain a personal advising philosophy
- Analyze transcripts for the purpose of appropriate course recommendations
- Utilize technology resources including Navigate, Self-Services Banner (SSB), and Degree Works for the purpose of teaching students to select appropriate courses and progress towards degree completion
- Guide students in planning academic careers, internship and career opportunities, clinical placements, volunteer experiences, and course registration
- Provide appropriate follow-up documentation in designated student information systems
- Assist students with initiating appropriate forms and petitions as necessary
- Maintain the confidentiality of student records and other information according to FERPA regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of University policies and procedures
- Share knowledge of the University Catalog and semester schedules with students
- Apply academic coaching and success strategies for students who have been identified as needing additional supports; implements and monitors academic progress and academic recovery programs
- Monitor Early Alert notifications for caseload, providing outreach, resource knowledge, and referrals to students in need of additional personal or academic support
- Create plans of study for assigned programs
- Provide academic advising during new student onboarding events

- Academic Advising: Coordinate academic advising efforts including Academic Action plans, early alert outreach, and academic probation advising.

Develop and coordinate academic skill trainings for the SSS Success Mentor/Peer Mentors each semester.

- Lead training efforts and guide mentors in implementing academic skill sessions focused on time management, study strategies, test preparation, etc.
- Provide ongoing support and resources to ensure mentors effectively teach these skills.

Education/Knowledge
Minimum Education
Bachelor's
Required Licenses/Certification
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Education, Social work, or a related field.
Required Skills
- Experience with federal TRiO programs or minimum of three years of professional experience working directly with academically under-prepared students preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to relate to students, staff and parents in an informative, empathetic and effective manner.
- Experience in academic and career assessment; and a firm understanding of the requirements for successfully completing a bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students from various backgrounds.
- Detailed with strong organizational, listening, problem-solving, oral and written communication, and customer service skills; and a working knowledge of student information systems, database applications and Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Ability to work under limited supervision, working within existing practices and established guidelines.
