Job Summary/Basic Function
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for a range of responsibilities related to the mission of the college and department. The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating and implementing all aspects of student employment and student leadership development through the Residence Life Department. The Assistant Director oversees the department’s residential curriculum, including assessment of learning outcomes. The Assistant Director mentors the Hall Directors and Area Coordinator to best support their work with students living on-campus.
Position Responsibilities
Master’s Degree in Education, Student Personnel, Student Affairs or a related field (or Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of full-time employment in a Higher Ed setting). Residence Hall experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior professional experience in Residence Life, experience working with student leadership or development in a college/university setting; experience with a residential curriculum model.

Position Responsibilities
- Oversee the Residential Curriculum and other programming initiatives to ensure student learning and community thriving. (30%)
- Assess current Residential Curriculum components to measure student learning
- Use assessment results to modify and develop new Residential Curriculum components
- Work closely with the Center for Student Success to align the Residential Curriculum with the First Year Transition program
- Train professional and student staff to implement the Residential Curriculum
- Maintain the Residential Curriculum and track student staff completion of assignments
- Assess and evaluate departmental mission initiatives as they relate to both Residential Curriculum and student staff development/training
- Coordinate recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of student staff. (30%)
- Oversee the entire recruitment and selection process of current and returning live-in student staff (advertising, application process, group process, interviews, etc).
- Hire and coordinate training for desk workers at 5 residence hall desks
- Coordinate 10 day Fall Training for all live-in student staff, aligning training with divisional curricular approach
- Supervise the Summer Intern and advise the Fall Training Committee
- Manage the student Eco-Reps program
- Plan on-going training and professional development for student staff
- Support and advise live-in staff in their supervision of student staff
- Evaluate performance of student staff
- Mentor Hall Directors/Area Coordinator (25%)
- Meet regularly with staff to provide support related to student staff supervision and residential curriculum
- Provide ongoing training and feedback
- Support staff in monitoring student staff task completion
- General support of the department/division/college (15%)
- If living on campus, serve in the Hall Director on Call rotation
- Work closely with individual students and student groups, assisting them in pursuing sustainability initiatives and creating a culture of sustainability in the residence halls.
- Serve on relevant departmental or campus-wide committees and initiatives
