Why Concordia of Monroeville?
A Medication Technician is an employee who has been trained and passed the Department of Human Services Medication Administration course. This person is responsible for preparing, administering, and documenting all medications. Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse and/or Personal Care Administrator.
Qualifications:
1. Completes work assigned within his/her tour of duty by: Demonstrating efficient use of time and materials, demonstrating his/her ability to set priorities and is resourceful in use of time in stressful situations, works his/her assigned schedule, demonstrates flexibility, keeps unit clean and in order and demonstrates efficient use of time and materials in providing care.
2. Attends to the needs of the residents, which include but are not limited to: personal hygiene, answers call lights promptly, assists at mealtime and makes frequent rounds on all residents.
3. Demonstrates the ability to assess the resident and his/her family on a continuing basis-determines the resident problems so nursing can be planned, implemented, and evaluated by collecting data, observing residents, interviewing residents, staff, family and reviewing medical records, accurately record information obtained; take and record vital signs, collect urine, stool and sputum specimens, administer enemas, measure fluid intake and output, perform other simple treatments/procedures, and document outcomes; report any unusual incidents occurring to his/her resident and fill out report, notify LPN, RN, or Personal Care Administrator; completes documentation as required by regulation.
4. Demonstrates the ability to accept the responsibility and accountability for the care of the residents on his/her assigned unit by utilizing assessment skills to identify resident problems, initiating referrals to necessary persons ie: Social Service, Pastoral Care, etc., follows physician orders and questions when appropriate, assumes responsibility for the totality of all nursing care given on his/her shift, and assists with completion of paperwork required by regulation.
5. Demonstrates the ability to implement, coordinate the physician/nursing plan of care, and set priorities with nursing actions based on residents problem by performing resident care according to procedure, demonstrating safe technical skills, completing care by giving direct care or by planning, directing, and/or assisting with bedside care, preparing and administering all medications according to our policy; preventing infections by utilization of proper medical asepsis technique such as: using gloves for dressing changes, using good hand washing techniques, monitors and advocates resident rights, verbally reassures residents and families, and complies with home regulation, policy and procedures, and is professionally reliable and responsible with little or no supervision.
6. Dependability: Reports own errors to the LPN/RN or Personal Care Administrator, maintains confidentiality of the resident’s medical conditions and record, attends mandatory in-services and staff meetings, has exceptional attendance and follows established guidelines regarding absenteeism/tardiness.
7. Cooperation: Works effectively with team members, office personnel, and other departments to provide quality of care, implements suggestions to improve performance, displays interest and enthusiasm in work, accepts direction from LPN/RN or Personal Care Administrator, complies with resident requests in a kind manner or gives reason why compliance isn’t possible, adheres to dress code, works closely with families to facilitate problem solving and to offer comfort and support.
Recognizes that the role of the Medication Technician at Concordia at Monroeville includes representing the facility in all dealings with: greeting visitors, displaying courteous attitude, responding appropriately to questions and concerns, and reporting all concerns—resident, family, or staff to the LPN/RN or Personal Care Administrator

A Medication Technician is an employee who has been trained and passed the Department of Human Services Medication Administration course. Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medication Technician approved course thru Department of Human Services.
- Be able to prepare and administer all medication in a timely fashion as deemed appropriate by the Department of Human Services.
- Document administration of medications.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred.
- Must be caring, compassionate, and understanding.
- Satisfactory completion of orientation and training program and evaluation at the completion of initial evaluation period. Evidence of physical status to perform job, specifically: must be able to lift, push, and move a minimum of 50 pounds with or without the use of a mechanical device, must demonstrate manual dexterity to feed, bathe, dress, and groom residents, must demonstrate the ability to stoop, bend, and reach to complete duties assigned – bed making, restocking shelves, and in emergency situations, must be able to blanket lift residents during evacuation procedures, and must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Demonstration of flexibility with change in assignment, of ability to verbally communicate resident status/change in condition, ability to complete written documentation required by regulations and home policy.
