Position Summary
The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for technical functions of the library, including cataloging, creating, and maintaining metadata for print and electronic collections, print serials, bindery shipments, statistics and reporting, and scholarly communications.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete original cataloguing as needed using Library of Congress subject headings and classification
- Oversee copy cataloguing
- Maintain and enhance the cataloguing of the library’s special and rare books collections
- Oversee arrival of print serials, research and claim missing serial issues, and identify volumes that are ready to be bound
- Prepare shipments to the bindery for print serials, theses and dissertations, damaged books, and other materials as needed
- Perform triage of gift books
- Gather and keep statistics related to the management of collections and the usage of library materials
- Produce annual and ad hoc reports about the collections
- Manage Electronic Resources, including knowledge base selection, access, and troubleshooting
- Assist with the ongoing development of the library’s scholarly communications initiatives
- Provide reference and circulation assistance to library patrons as needed
- Assist in any other tasks as needed or assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of the Library
Qualifications
- Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity and experience with current cataloguing rules and procedures using RDA and MARC 21
- Familiarity with Lutheran theology and practice
- Ability to perform detailed and accurate work with little supervision
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong attitude for customer service
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
- Skill using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets
- Exceptional candidates will have skill using Perl or similar software tools primarily for string processing
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand at a computer up to eight hours a day
- Ability to walk for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to lift up to fifteen pounds
