Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant Cross Country Coach. This position reports directly to Head Coach Malachi Allgood and is located in River Forest, IL. The position will be responsible for recruitment of qualified student athletes for the women's and men's Cross Country programs. This 12-month position includes, ensuring compliance with CUC, NACC and NCAA Division III rules. Individual must be able to recruit academically qualified and athletically competitive student-athletes and to motivate them to realize their potential in the classroom and on the field.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coaching cross country, as well as the distance events in Track for the Men's and Women's programs. Because of the inherent visibility of collegiate athletics on campus and in the greater community, it is expected that the coach will display excellent communication skills, Christian principles, and exhibit teamwork with other academic, student life and administrative divisions of the College and be an ardent supporter of the mission of the University.
Candidates must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Concordia University Chicago graduate program.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Plan, organize, and implement a recruiting successful recruiting strategy for the Cross Country program (women, men).
- Analyze performance and instruct athletes in techniques and strategies in preparation for and during athletics competition.
- Work with the Head Cross Country Coach and Director of Athletics on academic success and study tables to support the student athletes.
- Establish close relationships with student-athletes and maintain effective lines of communication with all students, Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
- Assist Head Coach with practice and meet day logistics.
- Coordinate practice travel and organize meet day meals for Track & Field.
- Maintain a presence and supervise team lifts.
- Reserve university vehicles and transport Student-Athletes to fundraising opportunities.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience with Cross Country and distance track events (800-10K) preferred
- Familiarity with NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
- Must be continuously enrolled for at least 6 hours each in the fall and spring semesters (regardless of when the hours are taken during the semester) and at least 3 hours in the summer semester.
- Must complete a background screening.
