Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to fulfill the university's mission to help students develop in mind, body and spirit by instructing student athletes, equipping them with strategies and techniques to help them realize success in athletics, academics and social experiences. This position is responsible for the following: the organization, coordination, supervision and implementation of the assigned sports program; the scouting and recruiting players; the well-being and safety of the players.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- May initiate, schedule, coordinate and conduct scheduled practices
- Demonstrate Christian concern for athlete's academic, athletic, social and spiritual development
- Provide a system for issuing athletic equipment to athletes and supervision of such equipment
- Recruit athletes to sports program in coordination with Admission Department and Director of Athletics
- Instruct and educate athletes in the sport
- May supervise stipend and graduate assistant coaches
- Coordinate with the Director of Athletics in management of home and away contests
- Manage expenditures within the parameters of an approved budget
- Abide by and enforce NCAA Division III rules
- Abide by and enforce Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference
- All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Excellent organization and leadership skills
- Professional communication skills including public speaking
- Knowledge of trends in sport and coaching
- Knowledge of safety equipment and rules and regulations associated with the sport
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in written communication
- Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Education & Experience
A 4-year undergraduate degree or specific experience in coaching is required. 3-5 years of coaching experience a the college level is preferred.
