Position Summary

The Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) & Accessibility Services will be responsible for providing vision, leadership, and day-to-day management for the Academic Resource Center. The Director is responsible for closely collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to provide instructional support services and resources. This position is responsible for managing the activities of Accessibility Services, ensuring the provision of appropriate academic accommodations to all eligible CUWAA students with accessibility needs (including temporary need), serving as an expert resource to faculty/staff on disability accommodations as well as being a campus leader promoting a diverse, equitable and inclusive campus climate.

The Director of the Academic Resource Center & Accessibility Services reports to the Vice President for Student Success. The Director supervises the ARC staff and student workers. This position is a 12-month position that requires a normal eight-hour workday; however, as a salaried position; the Director may need to work extended hours to meet the demands of the job.

The Director is an enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education who exhibits Christ-centered servant leadership and a dedication to student success. This individual is responsible for ensuring that the Concordia University Wisconsin & Ann Arbor mission, vision, and core values are integrated into the daily functions of their work.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Establish strategic goals related to the University strategic plan for the ARC in coordination and collaboration with the VP for Student Success and Student Success Directors,
  • Maintain a high level of working knowledge and understanding regarding ADA law ensure practices at CUWAA are in alignment with such,
  • Oversee the ongoing development and delivery of a comprehensive tutoring program to assist students in achieving academic success,
  • Create a network of relationships with students, faculty, and staff across the campus and community that effectively supports the delivery of disability and academic support services to students.

Accessibility Services

  • Review documentation regarding students' disabilities; this includes psychological, medical, academic and educational assessments,
  • Determine reasonable accommodations for students and work with both students and faculty to ensure accommodations are implemented,
  • Advise students, parents, and prospective students regarding disability-related issues, transitioning to college, and developing self-advocacy skills,
  • Serve as a resource for faculty and administrators on disability and accommodation related issues,
  • Draft policy and procedures for providing appropriate accommodations in accordance with federal and state laws,
  • Process requests for housing and meal plan accommodations and exemptions, and emotional support and service animals,
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records through Accommodation Information Management (AIM) in order to generate reports of students with disabilities and their usage of services,
  • Meet with prospective student families to ensure an understanding of the Accessibility Request process at CU,
  • Monitor overall campus accessibility, both programmatic and physical.

Operational

  • Collect and maintain data, coordinate procedures, and prepare reports on academic support programs
  • Articulate program offerings with student services offices, Campus Deans, and all academic departments to ensure that programs meet the needs of the students
  • Collaborate with faculty in order to provide academic support of their curricula and teaching
  • Internally advertise services and maintain information on the portal, website, and promotional materials
  • Monitor student performance for the purpose of overall program effectiveness

Supervisory

  • Manage department budget
  • Identify, hire, orient, and supervise full and part-time professional staff
  • Recruit and train student workers, including tutors
  • Create and present professional development workshops/training for faculty and staff

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree, preferably in the areas of Higher Education, special education, student services administration, instructional administration, education, or counseling
  • Preferred 2 years of disability support experience in a higher education setting

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to collaborate across networks and work effectively in teams
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent, professional communication skills both written and interpersonal

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt (salary) staff position. The starting wage is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia University benefit options include, but are not limited to the following:
