Job Description: Crane Technician
Reports to: Crane Superintendent
Summary of Responsibilities: Under the direction of the crane superintendent, incumbent is primarily responsible for the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of tower cranes, mobile cranes and batch plants. In addition, incumbent will be required to visit construction sites to identify issues, perform repairs, and ensure the proper functioning of the crane, often requiring work at heights and a deep understanding of complex mechanical systems. Other duties include providing technical assistance during crane erection, dismantling, and climbing operations. Incumbent is also responsible for connecting, meshing, aligning, lubricating and adjusting items and stems to ensure proper operation of crane, and providing assistance with erecting batch plants when necessary, and attending required safety meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Extensive knowledge of the mechanical characteristics of cranes
· Extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationship of the crane and all its integral parts, such as hydraulic lifting, loading, turning and positioning systems including their mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic controls
· Extensive knowledge of how electrical transistorized and other non-mechanical systems tie in with and affect the operation of the cranes’ mechanical system
· Extensive knowledge of construction site operations
· Extensive knowledge of company safety program
· Requires driver’s license, as there is constant travel from one work site to another
Essential Functions of the Job:
· Primarily responsible for the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of crane and related equipment as well as providing technical assistance during assembly, dismantling and climbing of cranes and batch plants
· Responsible for the installation of all parts needed for the safe and efficient operation of cranes and batch plants
· Must have and apply knowledge and related troubleshooting skills to determine mechanical defects which cause engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and other major systems and their components to fail to operate or fail to perform up to specifications and requirements.
· Must apply knowledge and skill in using a wide range of diagnostics and test equipment.
· Many situations are covered by established standards and procedures; refer all unworkable problems to supervisor.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands must be met in order to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the essential functions, the employee is regularly able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds and possess sufficient strength, skill, dexterity, constitution and endurance to perform the functions of the job properly in a reasonable and timely manner.
Work Environment:
Work in outdoor conditions, year-round, at a concrete construction site where noise, vibrations, and hazards commonly associated with this type of work exist.
Preferred Education & Experience:
· A minimum of 2 – 3 years related experience working as a crane technician
· Minimum of a high school education or GED is preferable with 2-3 years of job-related experience.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, or until the job is complete.
