The Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association (CMHA) is a leading trade organization committed to advancing the concrete masonry and hardscapes industry. Through cutting-edge research, development, and education, CMHA supports the production, testing, and innovation of concrete masonry products.
We are seeking a Materials Research Assistant to join our Research and Development Laboratory in Herndon, Virginia. This role supports the Manager of Research and Development by ensuring accurate, high-quality research and testing operations that foster innovation and meet the needs of our members and the broader industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Management & Reporting
- Enter data, prepare research reports, and process invoice requests.
- Screen data for errors as part of a redundant quality assurance plan.
- Laboratory Operations
- Collaborate with the lab manager to maintain equipment verifications and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory clients, association members, and education program participants.
- Uphold a professional and positive image of the laboratory’s services.
- Quality & Safety
- Support the creation of accurate and timely standard test reports.
- Comply strictly with all laboratory safety requirements and proactively address any safety concerns.
- Participate in safety education programs and assist with inspections, training seminars, and CMHA meetings.
- Research & Development
- Assist with large-scale research projects including stakeholder communication, data analysis, and reporting.
- Continue to improve technical skills related to concrete masonry and hardscapes.
- Other Duties
- Provide additional support for training classes and other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience
- College degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Familiarity with ASTM standards is a plus.
- Skills & Abilities
- Detail-oriented with the ability to follow standardized test procedures.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Other Requirements
- Reliable transportation to the CMHA office; driver’s license preferred.
- Willingness and ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in person, on the telephone, and through written correspondence.
- Must be able to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
