Position Snapshot: The Technical Sales Manager will be responsible for developing business and executing the sales and marketing plan to meet sales targets and growth expectations for CP&P's Southern Virginia/North Carolina territory. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in introducing new products to customers and driving specification sales for engineered products in the construction industry. They will be a savvy sales professional, with an engineering background, technically confident, congenial yet assertive, comfortable speaking in front of small or large groups, and able to communicate well with all stakeholders at all levels.
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute an agreed sales plan for the territory to achieve agreed sales and margin targets.
  • Have knowledge of and understand the stormwater and wastewater market and be aware of construction industry specific trends and regulatory drivers in the territory.
  • Attend, present, and exhibit at industry conferences and seminars.
  • Make regular presentations “lunch and learns” and webinars of all products.
  • Arrange escorted plant and site visits to influence key decision makers.
  • Make regular calls to engineers, owners, contractors to assist them with specific project needs. 
  • Track and monitor the progress of a project from initial inquiry through delivery and installation.
  • Obtain from the customer project plans and requirements to allow the Project Managers to develop a proposal and pricing for the customer.
  • Present proposals, specifications, drawings, budgetary pricing and bid pricing to the customer.
  • Work closely with CP&P’s core sales team members when bidding a project or securing a contract with a general contractor.
  • Assist the Post-Order Team with securing submittal approval and making sure products are delivered on time to meet customer needs.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on assigned metrics, for example active sales funnel, backlog, sale revenues, sales won and lost, etc.
  • From time to time, attend training sessions required by the company.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ten (10) or more years of professional selling experience in the water sector and/or construction industry.
  • Proven track record of consistently exceeding goals, objectives, and sales targets.
  • Strong presentation, communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Self-driven, motivated and results oriented.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Stormwater and Wastewater Regulations and drivers in the Territory
    • Precast concrete and reinforced concrete pipe manufacturing processes and method
    • Experience with construction site application of finished product
  • Instinctive ability to quickly pivot and adjust to situational or operational changes.
  • Ability to remain professional in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Smartsheet.)
 
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is strongly preferred, or a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a sales engineer serving the water sector or construction industry.
 
Requirements:
  • Must reside in the continental U.S. within the assigned region. No relocation assistance is provided.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.
 
Typical Schedule: Work is generally performed Monday-Friday, with frequent travel (3-4 days per week) within the designated territory. Occasional overnight stays will be required.
 
Typical Physical Demands: Physical agility, which may require any or all of the following: standing, sitting, walking, climbing, reaching, bending/stooping, lifting (50lbs. max), pushing/pulling (50lbs. max).
 
Working Conditions: This position requires 50 – 75% travel. Office work will be performed in clean, climate-controlled areas, with fluorescent lighting. Work may also occasionally be performed at a home office or alternate site.
 
Compensation: Based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
