POSITIONS IN THE ACCOUNT CLERK CLASSIFICATION ARE ALL PART-TIME.

Applications will be screened for best qualified applicants to compete in the competitive examination process. For those passing the Training and Experience Evaluation (notified after the recruitment closing date):

The Performance Examination will consist of document creation/revision utilizing Microsoft Office Word and Excel 2010, as well as an on-line multiple choice examination assessing fundamental knowledge for the position.
For those passing the General Fitness / Performance Examination:
3. Structured Oral Interview – TBD
The Structured Oral Interview will be before a panel and contain questions that assess technical knowledge, experience, and one's general fitness for successful performance in the position.
A total score will be computed using weighted scores on all testing components. Applicants must receive a passing score on the oral examination to be placed on the year-long eligibility list. The top 3 ranks (scores) on the eligibility list are eligible for the hiring interview for each vacancy in this classification within the life of the list.

Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities, as stated, are considered to have the necessary education.
Experience:
Some experience in general clerical work, preferably including financial recordkeeping activities, (course work directly applicable to the duties of the class may be substituted for the required experience).Knowledge of:
Methods and practices of financial recordkeeping;
Modern office methods and procedures.
Ability to:
Perform financial clerical work of average difficulty;
Make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work;
Operate a computer, typewriter and other standard office equipment with accuracy.

BASIC POSITION FUNCTION
Positions in this class are normally assigned moderately difficult tasks such as posting, adding, computing and recomputing, and comparing and filing financial data or statistical information. Records maintained by positions in this class are reviewed regularly. Incumbents are expected to solve routine or repetitive problems without assistance, but unusual or unique problems are referred to a supervisor. A variety of general clerical duties may be assigned which require the exercise of some initiative and a general understanding of the rules, policies, and procedures of the department. The records maintained and procedures followed are normally a portion of a more complex set of records or a segment of an accounting process; and the primary responsibility for the more complex record system is assigned to positions in a higher class.
Gathers, assembles, tabulates, checks and files financial and statistical data, keeps simple financial records and processes documents involved in financial transactions; does machine posting; makes arithmetical calculations; makes and verifies extensions; types purchase orders when necessary; checks extensions of invoices, matches invoices to purchase orders, attaches receiving information, and prepares for payment; posts to records and prepares listing sheets and reports; counts monies and makes bank deposits; assists in making financial and statistical reports of cash collections and others as requested by supervisor; may operate various office machines including computer, typewriter, calculator and standard office machines; performs general clerical work including typing.Education:Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities, as stated, are considered to have the necessary education.
