BASIC POSITION FUNCTION
Under the general direction of the Director, Technology Services, provide technical support, training, and direction to District staff using computer equipment and applications on a wide area network (WAN) or large local area network (LAN); install, test, and resolve problems with computer hardware and software.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class support large groups of users and many different applications. Incumbents evaluate and recommend changes or additions to District's computer systems, using a substantial knowledge of information technology systems and methods, as well as knowledge of departmental operations. Incumbents also perform specialized duties as required, such as administering LANs/WANs; and writing database queries, designing and producing database reports, and evaluating, modifying, and maintaining departmental databases. Incumbents work with minimal technical support from other positions within the assigned department, and refer the more complex issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Install, upgrade and configure desktop computers and related hardware, software and operating systems, necessary drivers, and computer peripheral equipment. Installs, upgrades, configures, troubleshoots the district client student information system, and provides ongoing training and assistance to District personnel in the use of student information software and related programs; including providing on-site and classroom training sessions in the preparation of standard or customized reports, methods of data input and extraction. Install and upgrade servers and related equipment on district and school site networks; verify appropriate licenses for server applications; Administer LANs/WANs; establishes procedures to back up data stored in computers and to maintain efficient operation of LANs/WANs; provide server support and maintenance; uses various utilities to trouble-shoot, repair, and check configuration of servers. Adapts existing database software, spreadsheets, and other programs to best meet end user needs. Monitor and make recommendations for various software applications; verify appropriate licenses for software applications installed on district computers. Evaluates and resolves user problems; identifies and obtains appropriate resources for the resolution of complex problems; corrects routine problems by making repairs to computer equipment; contacts appropriate resources for additional assistance; provides routine telephone and on-site support in computer system operation and the use and application of various software packages. Make adjustments to, repairs and/or make recommendations for repair of computers, servers, and other network equipment; check equipment and software for proper operation and maintain records of repair work. Establishes and maintains Internet and Intranet web sites and web pages; provides technical support in creating content areas; builds on-line forms and connects them to databases; provides technological solutions that can be applied to the ongoing development of a department's on-line presence; provides technical support for automating traditional processes; translates conceptual Web page designs into HTML and/or using the District's Content Management System. Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and user manuals; may write straightforward report generation programs or other simple computer/SQL code. May serve as lead worker or provide direct or functional supervision over clerical and/or technical staff. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: |
Education / Experience: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field, and three (3) years experience working with computer hardware/software, network servers and computer operational systems. A Bachelors degree and experience with Q/Zangle Student Information System are highly desirable. Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements Valid California Class C Driver's License
