Our programs feature state-of-the-art laboratory facilities where students will engage in hands-on learning experiences. These labs are equipped with realistic animal models and advanced simulation technology, allowing students to develop essential veterinary skills in a controlled environment. Students will participate in various lab activities, including animal anatomy, clinical pathology, and surgical procedures, before applying their knowledge in real-world clinical placements.
Our new Conestoga Grooming School will mimic a real-life, large scale pet grooming salon and provide pet grooming students with the opportunity to apply their grooming skills in a realistic setting, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
We are seeking a dedicated Field Placement Advisor to join our team and organize field placements for Pet Grooming, Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary Technician programs within the School of Community Services. The successful candidate supervises and assigns grades to students on field placement, conducts seminars and acts as resource to students, academic teams and community placement locations.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with three days on-site at the Doon campus located at 299 Doon Valley Dr. in Kitchener, and two days remote.

Responsibilities
Student supervision:
- Supervises students in field placement settings in the community
- Meets with preceptor and student, offering support and assisting with problem solving
- Tracks skills completion through competency tracker and discusses with student or preceptor when skills are not being completed
- Completes paperwork, mark placement assignments and evaluations and maintains individual files
- Brings exceptions to academic team
- Schedules field placements for students in the animal care programs and School of Community Services academic programs
- Develops and monitors placement completion plans for students who have missed placement requirements
- Maintains master tracking records of student’s placements and communicates with academic teams
- Coordinates field placement forms, placement site list, keeps up with ongoing changes and maintains necessary inventory
- Collaborates with academic program teams to develop and makes changes to field placement assignments, contributes to course outline updates and instructional plans
- Collaborates with Work-Integrated Learning Field Placement Officers regarding pre-placement requirements
- Engages with placement partners, develops new placement partners, and promotes the value of placement partnership
- Collects, organizes, and validates all placement forms completed by placement locations to ensure compliance with program, College and accreditor processes as applicable
- Acts as a liaison within the community promoting the animal care programs and School of Community Services programs to prospective placement sites
- Maintains ongoing contact (mail, phone, email) with organizations used for placements ensuring program updates, etc. and specific student information are communicated to them
- Develops and organizes community events including regular support workshops for community organizations under the direction of the academic program administrators
- Creates, maintains and modifies digital resources (Teams, Sharepoint and digital forms) for the field placement team and operating procedures for academic staff to review
- Attends program meetings, Annual Program Reflection and Major Program Review meetings and contribute to changes as they relate to field placements
- Minimum two-year diploma in Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technology is required
- Minimum two years of experience working as a Registered Veterinary Technician is required
- Must be registered in good standing as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the Province of Ontario
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Able to work independently
- Creative approach to problem solving
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
