The position is intended to help the Head Varsity Coach provide leadership, management and supervision of extracurricular/athletic programs sponsored by Conestoga Valley School District that promote a sense of pride and belonging among students, staff and community and advance the development of leadership, character, and lifelong fitness among student-athletes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Understand, follow and uphold policies, rules and regulations set forth by NFHS, PIAA, District 3, Lancaster Lebanon League and CVSD.
2. Maintain loyalty to Head Varsity Coach and support decisions while offering advice.
3. Embrace the mission of CVSD Athletics and the overall purpose of interscholastic athletics.
4. Demonstrate professional sideline conduct toward officials and student-athletes.
5. Assist Head Varsity Coach with the organization, planning and execution of practices.
6. Punctual for practices and contests; communicates with Head Coach.
7. Promote sportsmanship amongst student-athletes.
8. Accept and perform duties as assigned by Head Varsity Coach.
9. Demonstrate willingness to devote time and energy to coaching duties and responsibilities.
10. Available to assist Head Varsity Coach with out-of-season opportunities (open gym, camp, etc.)
11. Possess a fundamental knowledge of the sport.
12. Attend Booster Club meetings when the Head Varsity Coach is not able.
13. Assist with issuance and collection of equipment and uniforms.
14. Monitor academic performance and behavior of student-athletes on a daily basis.
15. Establish positive relationship and advocate for community-based youth sport programs.
16. Attend trainings, clinics, conferences or other professional development opportunities provided by Athletic Department.
17. Complete annual training on concussion education, sudden cardiac arrest and other mandated requirements.
18. Attend Pre-Season and End-of-Year Coaches Meetings held by Athletic Department.
19. Embrace the Mission of the CVSD Athletic Department.
20. Teach, Enforce, Advocate and Model principles of good sportsmanship and character education.
21. Define standards of acceptable behavior.
22. Firm, fair and consistent application of rules and regulations.
23. Maintain positive public relations with local media.
24. Counsel student-athletes in the decision-making process regarding college, vocation as well as daily issues.
25. Maintains open lines of communication with Head Coach, student-athletes, and parents.
26. Respect and support fellow coaches and student-athletes during seasonal sports.
27. Work closely and cooperatively with Head Varsity and JH coaches to develop a coordinated program.
28. Develop and maintain positive rapport with Administration, Faculty and Staff.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assist Head Varsity Coach in all aspects of the program.
SCOPE AND IMPACT
This position involves a wide scope of responsibility in varying degrees of complexity. Internal contacts include faculty, staff, administrators and students. External contacts include parents, community-based organizations, media and fellow coaches at opposing school districts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. Teaching certification and/or the ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of pedagogy.
2. Current clearances pursuant to state mandates.
3. Demonstrated coaching and/or playing success of sport at another level.
4. National coaching certification and/or minimum coaching requirements (ASEP, etc.) preferred.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff and administration.
6. A fundamental working knowledge of interscholastic athletics.
7. Availability to assist Head Varsity Coach with a year-round training program.
SPECIAL SKILLS
This position also requires strong organizational and planning skills, above average interpersonal communication skills, excellent written and oral skills and ability to be sympathetic, diplomatic and tactful with all stakeholders. The ability to motivate student-athletes is critically important.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENT

1. Walk/Stand 90%.

2. Ability to manage conflict well and deal with unexpected situations appropriately.

4. High degree of patience and tolerance.
Environment –
1. Normal athletic environment on the CVHS/GHMS campus.

Pay: $23.75 - $27.65 per hour
