Position Type : Support Staff / Instructional Aide Date Posted : 11 / 26 / 2024 Location : Conewago Valley Intermediate School Date Available : Immediate Opening Closing Date : Until Filled SUMMARY : The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) primary responsibility is to work directly with the student(s) to provide academic and behavioral support on a one-to-one basis to help them succeed in a regular education classroom. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Specific tasks and / or activities under each of the following responsibilities will be assigned by the Supervisor. Encourage, support, and educate the assigned student(s) by assisting them in the performance of activities in the classroom and throughout the school day. Assume duties of a personal care nature that will allow the student to participate to their maximum ability in the least restrictive environment. This may involve meeting the physical needs of the student as is appropriate. Escort students to and from class, bathroom, bus pick-up, etc., as well as accompany the student to assemblies, field trips, in job settings, etc., based upon the student's needs. Assist the student in managing and maintaining their environment to meet their special physical and / or psychological needs. Continue to monitor the incidence and prevalence of selected health problems as needed. Assist the student in using augmentative technology as needed. Assist the teacher or student in arranging the environment of the classroom to best meet the needs of the student. Attend training sessions, in-services, or workshops designed for working with individual students as a personal care assistant. Annually submit documentation of 20 hours of professional training required under Chapter 14. Assist in maintaining up-to-date records on the student, describing strategies for their program. Assist / consult with / take direction from the teacher as a member of the educational team to continually modify the program for the student. Participate in the development and implementation of the assigned student's IEP. Fulfill requirements and adhere to the policies established by the Conewago Valley School District. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by Building Administration and / or the Director of Special Education. Understands and supports school-wide and classroom management policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Willingness and ability to gain an understanding of instructional programs, which will enable one to support these instructional programs within the specific area of employment. EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : High School diploma or equivalent Experience working with children and / or special needs student(s) preferred Ability to work cooperatively with staff and students Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions Must have or be willing to secure certification for CPR and First Aid Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times POSITION SPECIFICATIONS : This job operates in a typical classroom environment. While performing the duties of this job, the position may require physical demands that could include physical restraint, ambulation, and position of student, moving student in and out of the wheelchair, and assistance with daily activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Employment is conditional upon successful completion and submission of all federal, state, and local hiring regulations. Certificated staff is employed for the number of school year contractual days in accordance with the current Negotiations Agreement and with placement on the salary schedule of the bargaining agreement. Placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Benefits are included according to Board policy and contract specifications. HOURS : 8 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m. (Seven (7) Hours Per Day) 183 days, hourly employee Compensation as per District guidelines The performance of a Personal Care Aide will be evaluated annually by the building principal and Director of Special Education following District guidelines.
